BLUFF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The Bluff Presbyterian Church is located about 12 miles north of Wade in Black River Township of Cumberland County near the east bank of the Cape Fear River and at the west end of State Road 1709 which intersects State Road 1802 (Sis Cul- breth Road) 0.8 miles north of its intersection with U.S. Route 301.
The historical marker located one mile north of Wade at the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and State Road 1802 reads:
Old Bluff Church - Presbyterian. Organized in 1758 by Rev. James Campbell. Present building erected about 1858. N. W. 1 mi.
For church history, see Rev. James Donald Mackenzie, Colorful Heritage, 1969.
Bluff Presbyterian Church is the parent church of McMil- lan Presbyterian Church ( 1892), Godwin Presbyterian Church ( 1904), Wade Presbyterian Church ( 1908) (now called Bluff Presbyterian Church), and Westminister Presbyterian Church ( 1914) (on the west side of the Cape Fear River) .

THE CEMETERY
For convenience in listing, I have arbitrarily sub -:: divided the cemetery into fifteen sections as shown on the map on the next page. Sections I - V are the oldest part of the cemetery and include many unmarked and lost graves. Sec- tions VI - X, within the road loop, were opened next and Sec- tions XI - XV, to the east of the road loop, were opened in November 1958. It is anticipated the unnumbered section to the south of the road loop will be laid off and opened in the near future.
Sketches of each section are intended to show relative positions of the markers and are not drawn to a uniform scale.
Listings of data from markers are from north to south in Sections I - V, the oldest part, and from south to north in the newer sections. All data is on one marker, unless pre- ceded by a lower case letter which is used to indicate a sep- arate foot marker. For uniformity, dates are listed in order of day, month, and year, regardless of how listed on markers.
The compiler would appreciate hearing of any errors or corrections. The second edition, being researched now, will annotate each marker listing with available genealogical in- formation and data derived from vital statistics.
