Greater Hickory is an Industrial center, known as the Hub of the Piedmont Industrial section of Western North Carolina.
The Products of the Manufacturing Plants consist chiefly of Tex- tiles, Hosiery, Furniture, Woodenware, and many other items.
The growth of Greater Hickory has been rapid even during the depression which has not been very noticeable in this section, partly due to the ever increasing development of the various industries.
Greater Hickory is situated on the gateway to the Land of the Sky. While it is on the edge of the great Piedmont Plateau, it is within easy distance of the Mountains. Blowing Rock, "The Famous

Resort," is only 45 minutes drive over hardsurface road with beautiful mountain scenery on the way. Blowing Rock has an elevation of 4,500 feet above sea level and 3,300 feet above Greater Hickory.
Hickory is located in Catawba County, known to be one of the leading counties in western North Carolina for agriculture, cattle, poul- try and dairies, with a climate that is fine the year round. It is also prosperous in all lines of farming. The best indications of this is that nearly all farmers own their own homes.
