ADVERTISERS' SPECIAL DIRECTORY

(Continued from Page 10) DISTRIBUTION CENTER

By reason of the fact that Salisbury is located in the most densely populated area of the State, embracing a population of 626,000 within a radius of 50 miles, a market much greater can be served than out of adjoniing cities such as Char- lotte, Greensboro, Raleigh and Winston-Salem. It is ideally situated as a distrib- uting center, Another facility which adds to its claims as a distribution center is the Spencer Transfer of the, Southern Railway which is the largest South of Philadelphia and through this facility shippers are able to get their products to the markets of the country from 12 to 48 hours earlier than at other points.

The retail trade area embraces a rich farming and manufacturing section having an estimated population within a 25 mile radius of 163,000.

AGRICULTURE

Rolling, fertile, cecil clay loam soils in the territory surrounding Salisbury make it particularly adapted to profitable diversified farming. The principal agri- cultural products are: Dairying, poultry raising, trucking, stock raising and the growing of cotton, corn and grain.

Salisbury has two modern packing plants furnishing an all year round mar- ket for live stock and poultry.

The value of agricultural products in the county in 1927 amounted to more than $5,000,000.

The above facts do not give in detail the many advantages and opportunities which Salisbury has, making it an ideal city in which to live and conduct busi- ness however, detailed information will be furnished to anyone making inquiry to the Chamber of Commerce.

Population Salisbury 19,243; Spencer 5,824. Total 25,067.

August, 1928.
