Report of School Board

The school board of Effingham herewith submits to the citizens of the school district of Effingham its report for 1916-1917.

We were obliged to raise the salaries of our teachers, and our school year has been only thirty weeks, but we feel much has been accomplished.

Some of our schools did not begin in time, because the board could not find teachers to take the places of those who failed to keep their contracts. Some schools have been closed on account of contagious diseases.

The school board would be very glad if all parents, as well as those who have no children, would visit the schools often and know just how all departments are being con- ducted, as seeing is knowing, and our teachers' work would be much more valuable if the mothers worked with them, · by encouraging the children to like their school work, to be neat and courteous, to be never absent or tardy. It will be only when the mothers and fathers do this and show a deep personal interest that the school work will reach the highest mark.
