REPORT OF SCHOOL BOARD.
To the citizens of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire, we re- spectfully submit the following report for the year end- ing. February 15, 1909 :
At the annual meeting of the school district Charles H. Senter was elected moderator, Jacob A. Woodward clerk, and Ella R. Holt a member of the board of education for the term of three years.
The sum of fifteen hundred dollars was appropriated for the support of schools, said sum to cover all separate appropriations.
The school board organized. with S. Kate Swinington chairman and treasurer and Alice M. Chase secretary.
Five schools have been in session during the school year and we have employed seven teachers.
While we have received especially courteous treatment from most of the parents. vet you do not cooperate as you should with teachers and school board in having regular at- tendance and careful usage of all school property. Educa- tion is the only sure inheritance you can bequeath your children and without which in these times of progression they cannot command the respect of right-minded people.
An "Institute" was held with us October 9 and was both enjoyable and helpful and we appreciate the effort of State Superintendent Morrison and his helpers to give us such a rare treat. It was, I think, the first ever held in town. We wish more of our people had been interested.
Our schools are practically in the hands of the citizens of the town. Treat them with indifference and they will be indifferent; treat them with honest interest and atten- tion and they will quickly respond.
We wish to thank the children who for the past five years
30
have welcomed our coming and in nearly every instance re- sponded to our desires for their good by better work, show- ing by their smiling faces their kindness of heart and wil- lingness to work to win our love and regard.
Respectfully submitted,
S. KATE SWININGTON, ALICE M. CHASE, ELLA R. HOLT, Members of School Board.
