COLONEL DAVID GILMAN'S REGIMENT, 1776.
[In answer to a requisition from General Washington, the legisla- ture, on the fourth day of December, 1776, " Voted, That five hun- dred men be Draughted from the several Regiments in this State as soon as possible. and officered & sent to New York." On the day following, the legislature appointed the field officers as given below. The cause of this call was, that the terms of service of the troops in garrison at Fort George and Ticonderoga would expire on the last day of December, and if their places were not filled those posts would fall into the hands of General Sir Guy Carleton.
