CARSON CITY
Capital of Nevada and county seat of Ormsby County, on the Virginia & Truckee Railway, about 30 miles south of Reno. Population 3,000. Splendid school system, five churches of as many denominations, two daily newspapers, bank and express office. Seat of Federal Court for district of Nevada. Carson City is the gateway to Lake Tahoe (15 miles) and the Yosemite Valley (205 miles) via the famed Tioga Pass. It is the center of inter- mountain tourist travel and a fine free municipal camp ground with all conveniences has been provided for use of automobile tourists. Good Hotel accomodations may be had and close to the city are wonderful hot medicinal springs and bathing resorts, Extensive improvements have been made and are under way. New court house and Memorial building will occupy the two blocks opposite the Capitol, making a splendid civic center. Car- son City is essentially a city of homes, with its fine location, good water and healthfull conditions, but opportunities are open for investment and development. An Irrigation plan is being serious- ly considered and recent mining developments in the hills sur- rounding the city give promise of the opening of several mines of merit. Carson City is regarded as one of the most progressive cities in the state and is making rapid strides in improvement. The Greater Carson Club performs the functions of a commercial club, and invites correspondence with people interested in the city or the wonderful section surrounding it. The Nevada State Prison, with interesting prehistoric footprints in its rock floors, the leading Indian basket industry of the West, railroad shops, creamery, magnificent state library, Stewart Indian Institute close at hand, Lake Tahoe at its back door, and good roads lead- ing to every point of the compass are a few of the factors that contribute to the building of the city.
