PREFACE.
The Seventh Edition of the Long Island Directory is herewith presented. Its patrons will easily discover, in this Edition, a new and important feature, not hitherto embraced within the scope of the Directory or the range of its information In all our preceding Editions, as our friends will remember, the business interests of Brooklyn have been left comparatively untouched. The time, however, having arrived for the publication of the Directory in a more extended form, it will now be found to include much information under the special head of Brooklyn, not heretofore attainable from the pages of local publications. While the usual care- with vastly augmented expense and labor-has been devoted to the preparation of the present Edition, some few inaccuracies, not necessarily affecting its general reliability, may possibly be found on a critical exami- nation of the work. Yet the publisher flatters himself that, as a business compilation, now, to a great extent, embracing within the area of its enterprise the second commercial city of the Empire State, it will be found literally exact in all its local details and business clas- sifications. In this confidence, in the usual good faith, the Long Island Directory, in its present improved and extended form, puts forward an additional claim to pop- ular encouragement and patronage.
