HISTORY.
ON the 5th day of May, 1812, a Church was or- ganized at Almond, then a part of the town of Alfred, by Rev. JOHN NILES, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Bath, consisting of twenty-six members. The next day Mr. Niles organized the First Presbyterian Church of Angelica, consisting of Major Moses Van Campen and Margaret Van Campen, his wife; James Renwick; Da- vid Chamberlain and Elizabeth Chamberlain, and Mrs. Prudence Johnson, their daughter. Moses Van Cam- pen was chosen ruling Elder in the Church, on.the same day.
On the 20th day of August, 1812, Rev. ROBERT HUBBARD was ordained by the Presbytery of Geneva, and at the same time installed Pastor of the united con- gregation of Angelica and Almond. The Installation services were held at Angelica, on the veranda of the house of Evert Vanwickle, Esq. Mr Hubbard's con- nection with these Churches continued until August 30th, 1826. Rev. LEWIS CHEESMAN was employed as stated supply for one year and three months, when the Church united in calling Rev. MOSES HUNTER, who was Installed their second Pastor Nov. 15th, 1827, by the Presbytery of Bath. The following four years were mem- orable in the history of the church. A very general re- vival was enjoyed under the faithful preaching of Mr. Hunter, , 28 were added to their membership. Thus; , strengthened in moral force and numbers, a felt neces-) sity for a convenient and commodious house of worship, found expression early in 1829, by circulating a subscrip- tion for that object. Hitherto, the School House and the Court House had been their places of meeting. The people, though poor, were happy and united in their ef-

fort, they gave not only their money but their time and strength to that work. The first stick of timber was felled and prepared amid the prayers and thanks. givings of this little church in the wilderness. The foundations were laid in 1830. A year and more was, occupied in its erection. Early in September, 1831, the building was dedicated to the worship of Jehovah, and all the Ordinances of God's House established. His ministry continued about five years. Rev. SAM'L WELLS MAY served the Church for a short time, when Rev. LEVERETT HULL was Installed their third Pastor, Sept. 29th, 1835. His brief ministry was especially blessed. Du- ring this year there was a powerful revival, and 84 were added to the Church. From 1837 to 1850, the following Ministers served the Church for one or more years, re- spectively :
Rev. Abiel Parmelee, Rev. George Coan, Rev. James Smith, Rev. Leverett Hull, Reverends Mesers, Frazer, Norton, Warren and Center. Sept. 30th, 1850, Rev. TYR- RELL BLAIR was invited to the Pastorate, and soon after was Installed the fourth Pastor of the Church, serving God and his people with acceptance and profit, until called to his reward in 1855, lamented by all.
Rev. HENRY E. NILES having received a unanimous call, entered upon his work May 1st, 1856. His minis- try was honored of God. A neat and commodious house of worship was erected and dedicated, a comfort- able Parsonage was purchased and the Society was every way improved. Rev. ELIJAH W. STODDARD succed- ed, entering the field in 1860 ; continuing a faithful Minister of the Word until 1864, when Rev. ELIAS L. BOING was invited to the pastorate and on the 12th day of October, 1864, was Installed the fifth Pastor of the Church, by the Presbytery of Genesee Valley. Rev. James B. Shaw. D. D., of Rochester, by invitation of the Presbytery, preached the Installation Sermon from Eph. 3:8.

The Form of Admission into the First Presbyterian Church.
Ye stand this day, all of you, before the Lord your God, to enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and into the oath which the Lord your God maketh with: you this day. You are about to profess supreme love to God, sincere contrition for your sins, and faith un- feigned in our Lord Jesus Christ.
You will now attend to the
CONFESSION OF FAITH.
You believe in the existence and infinite perfection of Jehovah, the one only living and true God .*
- You believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the inspired word of God, and a perfect, unerring standard of divine truth.t
That in the one only living and true God there are three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, equal in power and glory.]
That God, for his own glory, created all things vis- ible and invisible, and that according to his eternal plan, he governs all worlds, and all events. §

You believe that Jesus Christ is both God and man, in two distinct natures, and one person forever.t
That Jesus Christ, by his perfect obedience and his mediatorial sufferings, has honored the Divine law, and made complete atonement for the sins of the world; so that God can be just in extending salvation to men for his sake.}
You believe that all who will ever be saved by Je- sus Christ, were, in distinction from all others, given to him as his elect seed from eternity.||

in Christ as your Saviour, and devoted yourself absolute- ly and forever to the service of God. y
To this summary of Christian doctrine do you now cordially assent ?
You will now enter into covenant with God and his Church.
COVENANT.
In the presence of God and this assembly, you do now solemnly avouch the Lord Jehovah to be your God, the supreme object of your affections, and your portion forever.
You cordially acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ to be your Redeemer, Teacher, Intercessor, and King, and the Holy Spirit to be your Sanctifier, Comforter and Guide. You do humbly confess and bewail the sinful- ness of your nature, the manifold transgressions of your lives, and the unbelief which led you long to reject the Savior; all of which sins you do condemn and purpose to renounce. You humbly and cheerfully devote yout- selves to God in the everlasting covenant of grace, con - secrating all your powers and faculties to his service and glory; and you promise, through the assistance of his grace, that you will diligently observe all God's commandments, in the sanctuary, the family, and the closet; that you will keep holy the Sabbath-day; that you will seek the honor and interest of his kingdom; and that you will strive to live a holy, humble and prayer- ful life.
You likewise covenant with this church, that yon will submit to its order and discipline; that you will seek its peace and welfare; and that in all respects you will treat its members with that fidelity and tenderness, which becomes the disciples of Christ and members of the same family.
Thus do you severally promise and engage.
(Here the ordinance of baptism is administered to those who have not received it, After which the Church rise.)
C
+10
And now do we, members of this church, in conse- quence of these professions and engagements, affec- tionately receive you to this communion, and in the name of Christ declare you entitled to all the privileges of the church. We welcome you to the fellowship with us in all the blessings of the Gospel, engaging on our part to love you as Christians, to watch over you, to pray for you, and seek your edification so long as you shall continue among us. Should you have occasion to remove, it will be your duty to seek, and ours to grant, . a recommendation to another church, for hereafter you can never withdraw from the watch and communion of saints, without a breach of covenant.
(The church'will here be seated.)
And now, beloved in the Lord, you are ever to re- member that the vows of God are upon you, vows which will be upon you wherever you go-follow you · to the bar of God, and in whatever world you may be fixed, will remain unchanged forever.
Yon can never be again as you have been. You have voluntarily, publicly, and unalterably committed your- selves, and henceforth you must be the servants of God. Hereafter the eyes of the world will be upon you, and as you conduct yourselves, so will religion be honored or disgraced. If you walk worthy of your profession, you will be a credit and comfort to us, but if it be otherwise, it will be an occasion of grief and reproach. But, be- loved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things which accompany salvation, though we thus speak .- We charge you, forget not this day. Let these solemn vows which you have made, be the subject of frequent meditation and prayer. Guard every avenue of temp- tation. Abstain from all appearance of evil. Be not content with the common attainments of Christians .- Be actively engaged in the work of benevolence, and la- bor to turn many to righteousness. Be faithful unto death. And may the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd
11
. of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting cove- nent, make you perfect to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
(Those who unite with the church by certificate from other churches will here arise.)
Having made a public confession of your faith, and been recommended to our fellowship by the church from which you came, you do now bind yourselves by cove- nant with this church, and engage to seek its purity, peace and edification, and to submit to the government and discipline of Christ as here administered.
Thus you solemnly covenant and promise,
I then, as Pastor of this church, and in its name, declare you members thereof, and as such entitled to all its privileges, promising to walk with you in the ordi- nances and commandments of the Lord, as becometh saints.
Infant Baptism.
BELOVED FRIENDS : Ever since the institution of the Christian Church, God has shown a peculiar regard to the offspring of his people. In the covenant he made with Abraham, the duties enjoined and the blessings promised, bad reference not only to him, but to his seed after him. The seal of the covenant of circumcision was placed upon the child in early infancy; and with the parent, instead of being regarded as an alien from the commonwealth of Israel, and a stranger to the covenant of promise, it became a member of the visible church, and entitled to its privileges.
When the Redeemer visited the earth, through a new dispensation was commenced, and the seal of the covenant was changed, he recognized this relation as
12
one of Divine appointment, and instead of excluding the children of believers from the Church, he took them up in his arms and blessed them, and said unto them, Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God-the Church of God.
His appostles, in the spirit of their Master, with the believing parents, baptised the whole household or family, as in the case of the jailor, Lydia, and Ste- phanas.
As the Church continues the same, this privilege, so many ages since conferred on the infant seed of the Church, is still theirs, and must continue theirs, till an enactment shall be produced from God rescinding that right. Never yet has that right been taken from them by any prohibition of heaven. There is not the least inti- mation by precept or example in the New Testament, to authorize the exclusion of our little ones from the church. Her arms, as those of Jesus, are still open to receive them to her bosom, as we present them in faitb, and dedicate them to God.
With these views, and in humble dependence on his promised grace, you do now dedicate this child to God, and enter into covenant with him in its behalf, recognizing his right to dispose of this child as he pleas- es, promising to train it up in the nurture and admoni- tion of the Lord, to teach it to read the Holy Scriptures, to pray with and for it, and in all other ways, both by . precept and example, to train it up for heaven.
Thus you covenant with God and promise ..
