The organization of Company K, was effected through recruits from different localities. They were representative of the rank and file of the regiment.

There were some who were students in colleges, who postpon- ed preparation for a life work, and served their country with distinction.
The man selected as captain had attained his education, and entered upon his profession as Clergyman. Capt. Wiles was a man highly honored by his comrades, and gave prestige to his command.

HORSFALL, GEORGE .- Age, 24 years. Enlisted, Septem- ber 1, 1862, at Somerset, to serve three years; umstered in as private, Co. K, October 22, 1862; wounded in action, July 9, 1864, at Monocacy, Md .; died of his wounds, July 16, 1864, at hospital, Frederick, Md.
HOWELL, HENRY B .- Born in Olcott, April 23, 1841, son of JJohm Howell, (who was killed in action, June 3, 1864, at Cold Harbor, Va.) and Ehira Olmsted. His edneation was inter- rupted by his enlistment, August 27, 1862, at Newfane, to serve three years; mustered in as corporal, Co. K, October 22, 1862; discharged, February 24, 1864, by appointment to captain, Thir- tieth Infantry, U. S. Colored Troops. Served until the close of the war, when he resumed his studies at St. Lawrence Univer- sity. He was ordained minister in the Universalist denomina- tion, in 1869; was settled in LeRoy, Clifton Springs, Shelburne Falls, Mass,, and other places. In 1872, married II. Adda Bowen. Their children are Mrs. Erma May Chubbuck, Fred B. and Claude B., all of Medina.
In 1886, owing to failing health, he retired to a farm near Me- dina, N. Y. While not in active literary work, he answered many professional calls. Died February 17, 1900.
