LOCKWOOD'S ACADEMY,

FOR YOUTH OF BOTH SEXES, 139 & 141 South Oxford Street, (A FEW DOORS SOUTH OF FULTON STREET.) BROOKLYN, N. Y.

(Principal's Residence, 63 Herkimer Street.)

The Fourteenth Year of this Institution Commences on Monday, Sept. 10th, 1883, at 9 o'clock.

There are no vacancies in the school for those who find it hard to tell the truth ; for boys who use tobacco ; nor for those who have any habit of speech or behavior at variance with purity of character.

There is but one regular session, beginning at 9 o'clock and closing at 1 o'clock. Besides this there is provided an afternoon Delinquent and Study Session. One purpose of this session is to afford pupils whatever assistance they may require to prepare their next day's lessons.

The general aim of the curriculum* in the Primary, Intermediate, and Aca- demic Departments, is to give the scholar a practical education, much stress being laid upon the ability to write a good letter, properly arranged, correctly expressed and spelled, legibly written, clear and to the point.

The Primary Grades have oral instruction in French and German without extra charge.

The Collegiate Department covers Three Years.

The first year's honor t is a silver medal; the second, a gold medal ; the third, a silver chaplet; the sixth, a gold chaplet; the ninth, a diamond chaplet. This last is bestowed only upon graduation.

For CALISTHENICS a large room is set apart, where daily instruction is given in this beautiful exercise. .

The rates of Tuition for the regular English studies range from $5.00 to $25.00, payable in advance.

Pupils are received at any time, and charged from the date of entrance, except that no deduction is made for the first two weeks of the academic year.

JOHN LOCKWOOD, Principal.

* For a detailed exhibit of the curriculum, send for a circular.

t Rank is determined by percentages obtained at the monthly and yearly examinations, not by com- petition.
