SOME POINTS

For Wide-Awake Merchants of Brooklyn who want to do Trade with the Largest, Most Compact and Generous Section of the Religious Community.

*

EVERY THIRD OF FOURTH man, woman and child that you meet in the great City of Brooklyn is a member of the Catholic Church. Within the lifetime of the first Bishop of Brooklyn, and mostly under his rule, this marvel- ous community has been organized here. We now number over 250,000 Catholics, for whom there are 130 churches attended by 150 priests; we bave 2 colleges, 16 academies, 43 parish schools-in Brooklyn City alone we teach 20,443 pupils-16 asylums, and 4 hospitals !

DO YOU APPRECIATE THE SIGNIFICANT LESSON OF THESE FIGURES ?

The trade of that great, numerous, prosperous, intelligent and generous people is worth looking for !

HOW AND WHERE SHALL WE WIN IT?

The best way to reach Catholics is through their principal paper. Experience has shown that the weekly religious press is the surest and cheapest mode of reaching the families most likely to buy.

Dailies are chiefly read for their news. Numbers of our business men who have to use these will not admit them into their households, for obvious reasons. Even their shape and blanketlike unwieldy form prevent advertisements being seen without a painful search which few make.

"If you want a Catholic medium widely circulated, taken, read and preserved by numbers of the best families in Brooklyn and Long Island, by the Bishop, Clergy, Schools, Convents and Institutions, use THE CATHOLIC REVIEW, 65 Court Street, Brooklyn.

The only Catholic weekly commended by the Bishop of Brooklyn is THE CATHOLIC REVIEW, a fact that speaks volumes for its excellence as a Catholic newspaper. Fourteen years ago THE CATHOLIC REVIEW was founded in Brooklyn by the Vicar-General of the Diocese, Very Rev. Father Turner. Placed under competent journalistic and business talent, it at once attained success. From Brooklyn, recommended by a formal letter of Bishop Loughlin, its work and fame made the circuit of the world, everywhere recognized as worthy of the third city of America, and as one of the ablest and handsomest papers published in the English language.

The Cardinal Archbishop of New York, Archbishop Corrigan, the Archbishops of Phila- delphia, Boston, Cincinnati, etc., all repeated and strengthened Bishop Loughlin's favor and approval. The Holy Fathers, Pope PIUS IX, blessed it more than once; the present Pope, LEO XIII, twice by Pontifical letters under the Seal of the Fisherman, praised its conductors for their services to the Catholic canse.

Nor is it in the Catholic fold alone that THE CATHOLIC REVIEW has won honor and popu- larity. The chief Secular and Protestant papers have largely recognized its power.

Opinions of the Secular and Protestant Press :

The Boston Traveller says it is "the best Catholic paper in the country ;" New York Graphic, "the best type of Catholic weeklies;" New York World, "the best and best informed of the Catholic papers;" New York Tribune, "it affords evidence of being edited with care and ability."

The Christian Advocate sometimes finds "a breadth and genuine Catholicity in its utter- ances that is decidedly refreshing;" Zion's Herald, of Boston, calls it "that most readable and vigorous of Catholic papers;" the Congregationalist, "no paper which we receive betrays a wider reading, and a more careful study of the organs of Protestant thought."
