Being centrally located, below the City Hall, and within three blocks of the Great Bridge, all the principal lines of cars pass the door. Our Rooms are large, with high ceilings, well ventilated, nicely furnished with a separate desk and comfortable chair for each student, and in no place is the comfort of the pupil more studied, and his moral training better attended to.

A WORD TO PARENTS.

Those who intend to give their children a good education, to prepare them for either a Business or Professional life, should embrace, at once, the opportunity now offered. The benefits to be derived from this Institution are many and great. The students being at home, will thus be under the immediate care of parents as well as of teachers. Large expense is saved, which always accompanies educational training at boarding-schools. Those intending to take a complete course should enter as soon as possible, so that a correct method and habit may be acquired from the commencement.

We will guarantee as thorough an education as can be obtained in any other academy. We cordially invite parents and guardians to call, and visit the institution, and see our methods of teaching, that they may be able to judge for themselves.

The Principal and Proprietor of this Institution, W. A. KISSICK, A. M., has been well-known for the past 22 years, in the cities of New York and Brooklyn, as a successful manager and teacher in preparing pupils thoroughly for business, and will be happy to refer strangers, by permission, to business men and gentlemen of the highest literary and social standing ; also to former and present pupils, many of whom he has been instrumental in placing in positions of honor and emolument.

LADIES' DEPARTMENTS.

Separate apartments fitted up for Ladies and Misses, where they receive the same thorough instruction as gentlemen, in English, Commercial, Lan- guages, Short-hand, Type-writing, etc. Ladies or gentlemen prepared for examination as Teachers.

BRANCHES TAUGHT.

Book-keeping, Penmanship, Correspondence, Commercial Law, Busi- ness and Common School Arithmetic, Spelling, Grammar, Phonography, Type-writing, Telegraphy, Latin, German, French, and Spanish, Mechanical Drawing or any other branch required to prepare for business.

DIPLOMAS.

All students faithfully completing their course shall be furnished with Diplomas, which are often, in themselves, of more value to the Student than the sum paid as tuition fee.

NO CLASS SYSTEM.

There being no class system, Gentlemen and Ladies, whose early educa- tion has been neglected, will find with us superior advantages for reviewing and pursuing their studies in private. For backward boys and girls, this is a rare opportunity, as no pains will be spared to bring them forward as soon as possible.

EMPLOYMENT.

Of the large number of Students who have taken a complete Commercial Course at this Institution, not one of them has failed to procure a situation through us or by themselves.

The demand for our graduates always exceeds the supply.

PHONOGRAPHY.

Young men and women taught practically Short-hand Writing, fitting them for Verbatim Reporting-one of the most lucrative professions of the age. Three practical Stenographers constantly employed by us Day and Evening.

We guarantee to make thorough, competent Reporters. $10 to $15 per quarter.

DEPORTMENT.

The discipline of the Institute is mild but effective. We rule by love and not by fear. The Principal and his Assistants appeal to the Stu- dents' sense of gentlemanly propriety and behavior ; yet prompt and cheer- ful obedience will be insisted upon, and no insubordinate person will be retained in the College.

ASSISTANTS.

They are teachers of unquestioned ability and experience.

No Institution can excell us in giving good attention and thorough in- struction to each student, and none equal us in low prices.

CLASSICAL DEPARTMENT.

Languages taught are the Latin, Greek, French, Spanish, German an. Hebrew.

Students are taught not only to translate the Latin and Greek into English, but to turn English into Latin, Greek, etc., and that in strict accordance with the rules and idioms of those languages. Day or Evening.

GERMAN.

Taught thoroughly by a competent teacher from the North of Germany, Students may be taught in class separately, or privately.

THE REMINGTON STANDARD TYPE-WRITER.

There is a special demand for stenographers wno can transcribe their short hand notes on the type- writer. We have been teaching this branch for four years. The demand for good operators is con- stantly increasing. It can be learned in one quarter, for which we charge $10.

PENMANSHIP

IS TAUGHT BY THE PRINCIPAL, W. A. KISSICK.

His success in the past enables him to guarantee to all persons great im- provement. In removing Stiffness, Crampness and Trembling of the Hand and making Good, Plain, Rapid, Graceful and Off Hand Business writers, he stands pre-eminent.

TERMS-25 lessons, $4; three months, $10; one year or until learned, $15 to $20.

THE COMMERCIAL COURSE,

In this Institution, includes any branch required to prepare the pupils thoroughly for Business, such as Spelling, plain rapid Business Writing, Arithmetic, Correspondence, Book-keeping, Commercial Law, relating to Contracts, Agency, Collections, Negotiable Paper, etc., is a part of the regular Commercial Course.

TERMS-Three months, $15 to $20 ; one year, $35 to $45.

EVENING SESSION.

For the benefit of those who may be unable to attend during the day, wo hold an evening session from 7 till 9 P. M. None too backward or too old to learn, as cach student will be instructed separately or privately.

THE BOOK-KEEPING

Is thoroughly taught by an expert practical Book-keeper. The terms Dr. and Cr. are fully explained ; the nature of entries defined, and journalizing elucidated ; Ledger Titles ; closing and opening books, and balance sheets fully taught. As the student proceeds, every operation shall be thoroughly analyzed, until he is made familiar with all the principles of the science, and cnabled to grasp the subject as a connected whole.

COMMERCIAL ARITHMETIC

Embraces a complete knowledge of all the essential parts of Arithmetic, such as Common and Decimal Fractions, Percentage, Interest, Exchange, Equation of Payments, Averaging Accounts, Partnership, Settlement, etc. Three months, $10 to $15.

LETTER-WRITING.

This accomplishment has been so much neglected in our Seminaries, that it is raro to find a pupil who is capable of composing even a tolerable letter.

By our system the student is taught, by the rules of grammar and com- position, with constant daily practice, how to express his thoughts clearly and concisely. To the diligent scholar we assure the ability to compose a letter that may be the means of opening his way to prosperity and which will reflect credit on himself and his teachers.

THE ENGLISH COURSE,

Consisting of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar, Composition, Arithme- tic, and Letter-writing. Merchants and business men will agree with us, when we say that besides Penmanship, Arithmetic, Business Forms, and Book-keeping-important as these unquestionably are-there are other things, without a knowledge of which, a good business education cannot be considered as complete. Among these, we would particularly mention correct Spelling, Punctuation, and a sufficient acquaintance with the rules of Gram- mar and Composition, as will enable the student to compose either a good letter, business card, or advertisement. For the acquisition of these accom- plishments, the ambitious student will find, in our Institution, the most amplo facilities.
