Festa was discovered bý doctor Olbers, of Bremem, on the 29th of March, 1807. Its mean distance from the sun is about 205 millions of miles; its periodical revolution is performed in about 3 1-6 years. It appears like a star of the fifth or sixth magnitude.
Juno, or Harding, was discovered by mr. Harding of Lilienthal (near Bremen) on the first of September 1804. It appears like a star of the eighth magnitude. Its distance from the sun is about 255 niijons of miles ; its periodic revolution is performed in 1582 days. The inclination of its orbit to the ecliptic is 13º 50', and the eccentri- city of the orbit 0° 25'.
Pallas, or Olbers, was also discovered by dr. Olbers, on the 28th of March. 1802. Its diameter, according to dr. Herschell, is only 110 miles ; it appears bke a star of the eighth magnitude. Its mean dis- tance from the sun is about 266 millions of miles. Its periodical rev- olution is performed in 1683 days. The inclination of its orbit to the celiptie is 34º 39', and the eccentricity of the orbit 0,2463.
Ceres, or Piassi, was discovered by mr. Piassi, of Palermo, on the first of January, 1301. Its diameter, according to dr. Herschell, is ouly 160 miles. It appears like a star of the seventh or eighth mag- nitude. Its distance from the sun is about 266 millions of miles, and its periodic revolution is performed in 1683 days, being at nearly the same distance from the sun as Pallas. The inclination of the orbit of Ceres to the ecliptic is 10° 36', and the eccentricity 0,097. The sit- uation of the nodes of the two planets Ceres and Pallas, and the incli- nations of their orbits are very different from each other, so that when those planets are in the same plane, they are at a great distance from each other, notwithstanding their mean distances from the sun are nearly equal.

remarks and observations on the work, as the limits of a letter will permit me. But, on such a writer as Mr. Clinton, who treats of such a variety of matter; and abounds with such various profound reflections, is a task not easily to be performed ; I shall, there- fore, aim only to catch the grand features of the whole, and give my opinion of the merits of the work.
