The Botanic Garden and nurseries attached, cover a extent of upwards of forty acres, and contain abor 10,000 species and varieties of trees and plants. Pa ticular attention has been paid to the culture of the vir and the mulberry. The greenhouse department is on large scale, containing about 30,000 plants. In the oth departments will be found fruit trees of all the vario! kinds-ornamental trees and shrubs; herbaceous, flo1 ering, and medicinal plants; bulbous and tuberous root flowers ; and American indigenous trees and plants.


Visitors are allowed free access to the garden, on : days, except Sunday.

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE BANKS IN THE CITY


The Banks are open every day in the year, from 1( A. M. to 3, P. M., except Sundays, Christmas day New-Year's day, the Fourth of July, and general Hol days appointed by legal authority, and the Bank of New York on Good Fridays.


The rate of discount is six per cent. per annum, (ca culating 360 days to the year,) excepting when note have over 63 days to run, when the State incorporate Banks have the privilege of charging 7 per cent.


Bills or notes offered for discount must be enclosed i a letter directed to the cashier the day before discour day, advising the name of the person upon who: account it is offered, &c.


Bills or notes lodged for collection, are collected fre of charge to the holders, except when at a distanc When protested, the person lodging the same pays th charge of protest.


Deposits and notes for collection, must be entered the dealer's book at the time when deposited. No i terest allowed on deposits.
