My dear Nephew. in Giving you this familee Relic, I hope you will treasure it as I have done, if I had any male line in my familee I would not want it to go out of it. I can trust it with my Brothers Children, the reccord is not as complete as I would like. a good deal of the record was so worn I could hardly make it out. My Father's familee. I have to go a good deal on memory and eccepting my own Birth witch is right, the rest of my Brothers, I am right in the year but not in the mos. or das. of mo. You will notice your Great-great-grandmother. Anna Mackey who was born in 1740 and died in 1825 is as far back as I can find that reaches one hundred and fifty years. I see in Clutes History of Staten Island the name goes back to 1676. Your Great-great- erandfather's name is mentioned there. I cant place no others. Now, this venerable Bible has been in the state of wisconsin fifteen and a half years, in the state of Mississi, ci ono and a half year, and the state of Iowa nineteen years and inthe Territory and State of South Dakota six years, and away from Staten Island N. Y. forty-two years the first of last April. (1890 inserted in pencil) If the past could speake what great
changes in the living since then. If this Bible could tell its story - 6, the Sad and Sorrowfull Partings in familee and Home death has claimed about all of them except your generation. I have bad this familee Relick so long I shall miss it. 33 years next fall since your grandfather gave it to me, and if you keep it as good as I have done it will last a thousand years in the Coming Generations of the familee. keep it in the male line of the Houseman familee between you and Arthur is all I reguire I remain your affectionate uncle Anthony Houseman to his Nophew H. Houseman West Hew brighton, 3. I.
