The new territory refers to the township of Black Rock, which was added to our city in 1853, and which increased its area nearly 24,000 acres.


Our commercial facilities have, for two or three years past, increased at an astonishing rate. The widening and deepening of the main channel of Buffalo Creek ; the construc- ion of the ship canal between the creek and the lake, and running parallel to both for tnearly two miles, with a convenient and safe

entrance in all weathers ; the numerous cross- slips, and the Erie and Ohio Basins, have ad-


. ded over one hundred acres to the extent of our facilities. The Erie Basin will be com- pleted this season, and will afford safe anchor- age for a very large number of vessels. Steam tugs, recently introduced, greatly facilitate the arrival and departure of vessels, by towing them from one point to another.
