KUMBEL'S PATENT MACHINE -STRETCHED . LEATHER BANDING. 11.6

THE ONLY PATENTED BAND IN THE UNITED STATES.

Triumphant over all opposition this article has once more received the highest of all premiums, the Gold Medal, at the Fair of the " American Institute," in October, 1849. Awarded upon mature consideration, and severe test (in competition), of the superiority and originality of their principles of construction ; thus recognizing after thorough practical and public trial, that rank and position which the manufacturing community has long since assigned it as the

Best Leather Band Manufactured in the United States.

THIS banding is made of the solid part only of the best Oak Leather, is thoroughly stretched, cement- ed and riveted, will run straight and has a perfect bearing upon the pulleys.

From the superior mode of its manufacture it possesses remarkable Strength and Durability, beyond any banding manufactured. It also excels in its running qualities any band made upon other principles or of other materials.

The Belt made of Leather is the only one that can be relied upon to perform well in all situations. It neither melts with friction, sticks to the pulleys, nor frets into shreds ; nor is it subject to sudden combustion and destruction ; all which are marked characteristics of Beltings made from Gums.

The Patent Machine-stretched Leather Banding, as made by the Subscriber, will stand more heat, more cold, more friction, and is far more durable than those above referred to ; and for all practical purposes, it can also be made water proof.

The best evidence of its quality is its adoption by nearly all extensive Manufacturers and Machinists throughout the city and country, the River and Sound steamers, and (with marked approbation) by the various lines of Ocean steamers. Since its introduction by the subscriber, it has revolutionized ma- chinery to the general exclusion of gearing ; and the approval of practical mechanics is further emphati- cally expressed by the steady increase in the demand for it from year to year. Every Belt is warranted to possess all the qualities requisite for durability and good performance, or the money returned.

They can be furnished of any length and width from 1 to 24 inches, either single, double, or round. Also superior Lace Leather, with rivets, burrs, punches, setts, &c.

WILLIAM KUMBEL, Original Inventor & Manufacturer,

33 Ferry street, New York.

THE WALNUT OIL

MILITARY SHAVING SOAP?

Merchants and Traders must observe, in order to avoid Imposition, and Trickery, by a number of Manufacturers of a Spurious Article, which is palmed off as the Genuine. The following Card will satisfy any Inquirer :

A CARD.

IN order to establish the priority of my invention, and exhibit in suitable colors the several genii who trespass upon my prerogative, and in the vain attempt to find shelter under a mass of open viola- tion of truth, only multiply the truth against themselves.

My first impressions respecting the WALNUT OIL SOAP, were from the celebrated Dr. Reese, Medical Hall, Piccadilly, London ; and more fully matured by the aid of an officer of the highest rank. in the French army, a proficient in Chemistry.

-

In 1844, I was manufacturing Soaps and Perfumery, when I associated myself with P. D. Vroom, whose previous occupation had been Superintendent at the Blind Asylum ; consequently, he knew nothing of the business in which I was engaged. The WALNUT OIL SOAP was then in preparation, and was peculiarly my own ; to establish which fact, I refer to Moore & Taylor, 81 Maiden Lane, who were my associates in business, at 79 Trinity Place, previous to my knowledge of Mr. Vroom-and as a further vindication of the justice of my claim, the establishing of my right, and the total refutation of Mr. Vroom's egregious pretence to the invention, allow me to state, that the Label first got up for the article, was used to a great extent, and read as follows : "JOHNSON'S Walnut Oil Soap. 79 Tri- nity Place, New York ;" and for confirmation of this fact, I refer to W. J. Spence, printer, 194 Fulton street, who has the plate.
