" CITY DIRECTORY .- We have received Wilson & Trow's Directory, which, considering the short space of time afforded to its compilation and getting up, is a fair specimen of what may be done in New-York. by energy backed by capital We have not been at the labor of reading through its 673 closely printed pages, to test the accuracy of ALL of its contents, but if fullness of matter be a recommendation to a work of the kind, Wilson & Trow's Directory abundantly has it."-N. Y. Merc. Jour.
" WILSON & TROW'S NEW CITY DIRECTORY -This is the largest and fullest Directory of our city which has ever been issued. It contains a hundred pages more than any other one, and nearly twenty thousand more names The number of its pages of names alone is six hundred and seventy-three, and on each page there are one hundred and eighty jines. The number of names in it much exceeds one hundred thousand. It is very handsomely printed, on clear and white paper, and its appear- ance is what such a book should be
" We have examined it for accuracy and completeness, within the range of our acquaintance, and do not hesitate to pronounce it the best Directory of the city ever yet issued, and worthy of the patronage of all who desire a reliable work.
" The enterprise which has been manifested in its preparation, is wor- thy of all praise It is only thirty-one days, including Sundays, since the canvass of the city was commenced, leaving about twenty-six working days, and we now have a volume of nearly seven hundred pages of mere names and residences, neatly and handsomely printed, and justly claim- ing patronage for its completeness and reliableness.
" Mr. Wilson, upon whom the labor of compilation has chiefly rested, has publised for several years the 'New York Business Directory,' a work which is well known for its completeness and accuracy, and which is liberally patronized by the public. He was also Mr Doggett's assist- ant, at the time of the competition between Messrs Doggett & Rode, a few years since. Probably there is no man in the city better qualified than he is, from experience, to prepare a complete and accurate Direc- tory of the city.
In addition to the names of citizens, there is an Appendix of nearly an hundred pages, which is very complete in its information of public institutions, banky, incorporated companies, Corporation of the city and its officers, transportation lines, churches, hotels, publications, schools, and every variety of miscellaneous information.
This work is also embellished with a neat map of New-York and Brooklyn, which presents, with great clearness and distinctness, the names and location of the several streets."-National Democrat.

NEW DIRECTORY .- Wilson & Trow, 49 Ann street, have just sent us a copy of their new City Directory, which is said to contain 25,000 more names than any other City Directory ever published, and equal to 133 large octavo pages. It contains 6-3 pages, on which are enrolled, on han Isome paper and clear type, 122,190 names, the largest number here- tofore in any other Directory having been 96,500. It contains, also, a very well-engraved map of the city, and divers other pieces of informa- tion about streets, public places, persons, trade and commerce, most im- portant to every man of business, and even every sojourner in our midst, who has nothing more to do than to sit in his hotel in his arm chair, with a copy of this vade mecum on his knee, to become familiar with a com- plete outline of this mammoth city, which is quite enough for any stran- ger. The price is $2 25 -Christian Intelligencer.
" NEW-YORK DIRECTORY .- Since the death of Mr. Doggett, the com- piler of the New- York Directories for many years, there has been a struggle between two different houses for the place thus left vacant, and two different Directories have appeared as candidates for public favor. But the choice between them is so marked and decisive, that there can be no doubt as to where the patronage of the public will be bestowed. Rode's Directory has been . got up' with so little care, as actually to diminish the number of names instead of increasing them, while that of Wilson and Trow shows an increase of over 25,000. This is a very large increase. and shows the care of the compiler in looking up his facts." The Directory of Wilson and Trow was published on Tuesday, and as it has a manifest advantage over iis competitor in the number of names which it gives 10 the public, so also has it in general accuracy and in the style of its execution It is neatly printed. and the proof sheets have been read and revised with great care. The New-York Mirror, in speak- ing of it, says that . it is the fullest and most perfect Directory ever issued in this cuy.' It contains a map of New- York : a street directory ; a table of city offices. banks, insurance offices, building associations, railroad lines. expresses. newspapers, magazines, churches, asylums, societies, public schools, libraries, &c. Also, consuls residing in New- York, foreign ministers at Washington, American ministers abroad. and other important statistics It is for sale at the office of the publisher, John F. Trow, No. 49 Ann-street, New- York." -- Brooklyn Eugle.
'. THE CITY DIRECTORY .- We received from the publishers, Messrs. Trow & Wilson, on the first f the month. a copy of their new City Di- rectory for 1862 and '53. We have carefully looked it over, and must give as our opinion that it is a decided improvement on all previous efforts in the way of Directory: The Mirror. whose editor has been for- tunale enough to see a copy of the rival Directory, informs us that it is minus some 25.630 names that appear in the edition of Messrs Trow & Wilson -that is. Wilson & Trow's Directory contains 122,190 names, while the other contains only 96.560. This fact is the most conclusive proof of the relative value of the two Directories. In addition to the Di- rectory of names, this work contains a mass of useful information, most systematically arranged for the guidance of all who turn to its pages for information We would advise business men, who wish to have in their counting houses a perfect and correct City Directory, to procure a copy of Wilson & Trow's, as we believe it to be by far the best of the two pub- lishel this year. It is published at 49 Ann street, at $2 25 a copy."- Dispatch.
" NEW YORK AND BROOKLYN DIRECTORIES .- We have received a copy of Wilson & Trow's Edition of the former work, and we must say

that it is one of the most complete, well executed, and voluminous works of the kind issued. It contains 25,000 names and 133 large octavo pages, more than any other City Directory ever published. Also, some very valuable statistical matter, useful to every class of persons. For correct- ness, as far as we have examined it and are capable of judging, we are inclined to believe it as near faultless as such a work can possibly be."- Brooklyn Advocate.
" We are greatly obliged to Mr. John F. Trow, of 49 Ann-street, for a copy of Wilson & Trow's Directory for the city of New-York for 1852- '53, and find that this Directory contains a great number of names, which we have looked for in vain in the Directory of Mr. Rode, which we re- ceived earlier. An Appendix contains very elaborate information respect- ing the different societies, consulates, &c. ; and we would recommend all business people to get this well-printed book, which also contains 25,000 names, and 133 pages more than any Directory that has ever been pub- lished."-New- Yorker, Handels Zeitung, 5th June, 1852.
"TROW'S NEW-YORK DIRECTORY. - This valuable and important work, compiled by Mr. H. Wilson, and published by John F. Trow, 49 Ann-street, made its appearance a few days ago. We have examined it, and found it, so far a's we can judge, perfectly correct. We commend it to our citizens, as a work entitled to the most unlimited confidence."- Atlas.
"WILSON & TROW'S DIRECTORY .- We have received from the pub- lishers a copy of this valuable and reliable work. We observe that seve- ral blunders and imperfections that were published in the Directory of last year, and which occasioned us no little trouble and annoyance, are correctly stated in the new Directory of Messrs. Wilson & Trow. We have also heard a number of our mercantile friends speak of it in terms equally commendable. Mr. Trow has every facility for getting up a good Directory-and for issuing it an early day ; facilities which, we feel bound to say, the publisher of a rival Directory does not possess. It contains no less than 25,000 more names than any other Directory ever published. Now, we would like to know what utility or benefit there can be in a work of reference that does not contain these twenty-five
thousand names ? Such a publication must be well-nigh useless. We are pleased to learn that Messrs. Wilson & Trow's Directory is meeting with an extensive sale-and if its merits were more generally known and appreciated, the publisher would doubtless experience some difficulty in supplying the demand. The Tribune, in a notice of the two new Directories, pointed out a large number of blunders in Rode's ;- it also referred to what it thought incorrect statements in several instances in Trow's; but, unfortunately for the Tribune's critic, the misstatements that it alleged were contained in Trow's existed merely in the imagina- tion of the writer of the criticism, if we except a single unimportant statement with reference to a public officer."-Merchants' Ledger.
DIRECTORY .- Wilson & Trow's new City Directory contains 25,000 more names than any other City Directory ever published, and equal to 133 large octavo pages. It contains 122,190 names, the largest number heretofore in any Directory having been 96,560. It has, also, a very well-engraved map of the city, and other information about streets, pub- lic places, persons, trade and commerce, most important to every man of business. It is beautifully printed, and in all respects is a well ap- pointed and well furnished work : such as every place of business in this city should be supplied with at once .- New- York Observer.

" We acknowledge with much pleasure the receipt of a copy of the DIRECTORY OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK, for 1652-3, compiled by H. Wilson, and published by John F. Trow, 49 Ann-st. It contains 650 closely printed pages of names, in double columns, besides a useful Ap- pendix with names of City Officers, Banks, Insurance Companies, and a complete Street Directory, which in these days of Places is indispen- sable to the oldest inhabitant. The utmost pains have been taken to ren- der this Directory full and complete ; the paper and execution are good, and as far as we have tested it, we have found it perfectly satisfactory. It is to be hoped that the purchasers will be many, and the habitual bor- rowers few."-Churchman.
WILSON & TROW'S DIRECTORY. John F. Trow, 49 Ann-street.
" The palm must be given to this new candidate in this important and difficult field. Though issued with astonishing rapidity, it is more com- prehensive, and so far as we can judge, more accurate than any Directo- ry ever before published. It has 122,190 names, besides a great variety of other needful information. It is very neatly printed, and arranged with perspicuity and skill. When the immense labor of compiling and of printing such a work is considered, the publication of a volume so large, so correct and so handsome as this, is but little less than marvel- lous. The Directory has now become an indispensable; it is a great favor to have it so cheaply and expeditiously supplied .- New- York Evangelist.
"This new Directory of Messrs. Wilson & Trow is the fullest, most correct, and best printed (and prepared), that has yet been issued."- Home Journal.
" ' THE DIRECTORY OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK, for 1852 and 1853,' compiled by H. Wilson, published by John F. Trow, 49 Arm-street. This is by far the most complete Directory of the year in every point of view, and should, by all means, be sustained in preference to the ' regular' edition, which fully sustains its fame for incorrectness."- Golden Rule.
THE DIRECTORY OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK, for 1852-1853. Com- piled by H. Wilson. New-York : John F. Trow, publisher .- " This is a very neatly printed Directory, bearing the tokens of being very care- fully compiled. In point of size of the pages, the number of names on each page, and number of pages, it exceeds any Directory which has yet been published in New York. It is estimated that it contains some twenty thousand names more than any previous publication. We have looked over its pages, and so far as our acquaintance extends, have found it perfectly accurate .- Evening Post.
"WILSON & TROW'S NEW-YORK CITY DIRECTORY .- Now that New- York contains half a million inhabitants, the compilation of a Directory is not an insignificant labor. The materials for this volume, which con- tains nearly seven hundred octavo pages of names, and a hundred and eighty on a page, were collected, arranged, set in type, printed and bound in about 26 working days. It is the greatest feat at book-making ever performed in this city. This book was published at the time when it has been usual, heretofore, to send the first page of copy to the printer. To accomplish this amount of labor, at least one hundred and forty men have been employed night and day. It was stated by the late Mr. Dog- gett, when his Directory contained fifty-five thousand names, that his copy of manuscript, in successive pages, would extend a mile, or from the Battery to Canal-street. This volume has more than double that number of names, and its manuscript copy would extend two miles, or from the Battery to 14th st."-Book Trade.
