. Every effort is made to make the directory as accurate as possible. Sometimes, however, despite this care and attention, errors occur. Please check your listing and if it is incorrect, call the Business Office promptly.
The Company assumes no liability for damages arising from errors or omissions in the making up or printing of its directories, except in the case of charge listings in connection with which its'lia- bility shall be limited to a refund at the monthly rate for each listing for the time an error or omis- sion continues.
Telephone directories containing the listing's pf subscribers within a specified area issued from time to time by the Company are and remain the property of the Company. They shall not be mutilated and shall be surrendered to the carrier who delivers the subsequent issue. HOW TO USE THE DIRECTORY
Arrangement of Listings
A telephone directory listing is alpha- betized in accordance with the sequence of the letters in each part of the listing, con- sidering each word with the next word as to every letter it contains. . The parts of the listings are considered in the follow- ing order:
1. Surname (of proper name)
2, First given name or initial (of equivalent o cither)
3. Second gives nanie or initial (and other given name, if any).
4. Title (if any)
5. Designation (if any)
6. Street name (or equivalent)
1. 7. Building number
Abbreviations
Such abbreviations as Chas., Co., Geo., Jas., St. (Saint), Wm., etc., are placed in , the same alphabetical sequence as though spelled out in full. .
Apostrophe, Hyphen and Ampersand
Apostrophes, hyphens and ampersands (&) are disregarded in alphabetizing, and names containing these symbols are listed as though the symbols were not shown.
Names With Prefixes
Names beginning with "M." "!Mac," or "Mc," or with prefixes, such as D', De. Pitz, L', O', St. (Saint ), etc., are treated
as one word without regard to capitaliza- tion or apostrophe.
Single Letters Used as Names
Single letters used as names are treated as words and are listed before the names beginning with thai letter.
Same Names Spelled Both as One Word and as Two or More. Words
Names which are known to be. spelled locally both as one word and as two or more words are treated as one word in' determining the precedence of listings. In such cases a cross reference is placed where the listings would appear il' treated as two or more words.

To Foreign Countries
From your telephone you may, call practically all important cities in alie British Isles and Europe, and inany points in Africa, Asia, Australia, Central and South America, and Bermuda, Cuba, and several other island groups. Rates to certain overseas points are shown on Page 7.
Federal Tax
No tax applies to conversations for which the charge is less than 50c. The maximum tax on any conversation is 20c. Where the charge is 50c or more, but less than $1.00, the tax is 10c. Where the charge is $1100, or more, but less than $2.00, the tax is 15c. |Where the charge is $2.00 or more, the tax is 20c.

Time of Day Information
The correct time may be obtained by dialing or calling ME ridian 7-1212. This information is available at any time of the day or night and is provided as an' accoranjodation at a small charge as follows :
When the call is made from a message rate. telephone the charge is one local message.
When the call is made from a flat rate telephone, or from a coin telephone or non-coin public telephone, the charge is five cents.
Telegrams by Telephone
You may. telephone telegrams, cable- grams of radiograms to the Postal Tele- graph-Cable Company or the Western Union Telegraph. Company .; The tele- graph charges will appear on your month- ly telephone bill.
You may also telephone your telegrams from public and semi-public coin tele- phones and deposit the charges for such messages in the coin telephone.
Overtime Charges
" Although . it is not the Company's general practice to time all calls from message 'rate telephones on which the initial period charge is one local message, overtime charges will be applied wherever such calls are found materially to exceed five minutes in duration.
Displaying Telephone Numbers
If you display your telephone number on statitmery, vehicles,' or in other ways, it is important that it be kept currently correct. [Changes may become necessary from time to time, and failure to make corrections may affect . your service ! as well,as the service of those who desire to call you!
Identification of Employees
Every employee of the Telephone Company au- thorized to install, in- 23456) spect, repair or remove the Company's apparatus carries |a metal badge, showing the Company's name and his own number. Subscribers are earnestly requested to refuse access to their prem- ises to anyone who cannot in this way identify himself.
Attachments
The Company's tariff provides that no apparatus 'or appliance not furnished by the Company shall be attached to or used in connection with its facilities. Tele- phone instruments are designed to pro- duce the best results. Many of the un- authorized devices offered for , sale,

Conference Telephone Service
A number of individuals in the same or in different cities can be brought to- gether by telephone for simultancous dis- cussion. To place a conference call or to secure rate or other information regard- ing this service, just call Long Distance and ask for the Conference Operator.
Normally. no difficulty or delay will be experienced in securing a conference con- nection, However, such calls |involve the. use of equipment designed especially for rendering .this; service and, if planning a conference in advance, customers are urged to ascertain that the necessary facilities will be available! This may be done by calling the Business Office of the Long Distance Conference Operator.
Teletypewriter Service
Typing by wire is offered for any num- her of minutes and to any city in the United States. Suliscribers to this ser-
vice can typewrite by wire instantly to each other at any time. The service pro- vides two-way communication with a speed of . connection comparable with telephone service. One or more copies may be produced simultaneously by both sending and receiving machines and the material may be recorded on forms if de- sired. Teletypewriters can be operated by anyone who can operate a typewriter. For further information dial 811 or ask the operator for tile "Business Office."
Equipment for Persons With Impaired Hearing
Equipment permitting amplification of the voice as heard in the receiver, is of- fered for home or office use of telephone' customers having impaired hearing. Injuring Telephone Property
A person who wilfully or maliciously displaces, removes, injures, or destroys : a line of telegraph or telephone, wire or cable. pier or abjutment, or the material or property, belonging thereto, without lawful authority, or who shall unlawfully and wilfully cut; break, tap, or make connection with any telegraph or 'tele- phone line, wire, cable or instrument, or read or copy in any unauthorized manner any message, communication or report passing over it, in this state; or who shall wilfully prevent, obstruct or delay, by any means or contrivance whatsoever the sending, transmission, conveyance or, delivery, in this state of anty au- thorized niessage, communication or re- port by or through any telegraph or tele- phone line, wire or cable, under the con- trof of any telegraph or telephone com- party doing business in this state ; or who shall aid, agree with, employ or conspire with any person or persons to unlawfully do./ or permit of cause to be done, any of the acts hereinbefore mentioned, or who shall occupy, use a line, or shall know- ingly permit another to occupy, .use a line, a room, table, establishment or ap- paratus to unlawfully do or cause to be done any of the acts hereinbefore, men-

Privacy of Telephone Service
A person who wrongfully obtains, or attempts to obtain, any knowledge of a telegraphic or telephonic; message by connivance with a cjerk, operator, mes- senger or other employee of a telegraph or telephone company; or being such clerk,. operator, messenger or other em- playee, wilfully-divulges to anyone but the persans for whom it was intended, the contents or the nature thereof of a tele- graphic or telephonic message or dis- patch intrusted to h'm for the transmis- sion or delivery, or yf which contents he may in any manne ;; become possessed, * * * is punishable by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars or by! imprisonment for not more . than two years, or by both, such fine and imprison- ment.
