ETIQUETTE
[The following rules on Etiquette were copyrighted by Mrs. Burton Kingsland.]
Miscellaneous
A widow retains her husband's Christian name or not, as she pleases, but if she is well known she is so identified with him that her maiden name would look strange. It sometimes occasions embarrassment, however, if a son bearing his father's name is married.
A divorced woman uses her maiden name, with the prefix "Mrs." adding or not her married surname, which alone may be retained of her former title.
The "Mr. and Mrs." card is no longer used, except during the first year of marriage and to accompany gifts. The turned down card is now obsolete.
A husband and wife send but one card each, when the invitation is extended by the hostess only; if is- sued in the names of host and hostess, it is customary to send one of the wife's and two of the husband's. If the daughter's name appears on the invitation, a sep- arate card would be sent for her from each and all the invited guests; especially is this courtesy due to a débutante.

THE TOLEDO BLUE BOOK
Upon the announcement of a death, friends leave cards at the door of the house of mourning. It is bet- ter taste not to write anything upon them.
As soon as you are served, commence to eat in a leisurely manner-the hostess will be served first.
There is only one occasion when bread may be put in the plate. That is in conjunction with a fork in eat- ing fish when special knives are not provided.
Croquettes, rissoles, timbales-all entrées, in fact- are eaten with a fork and in no other way. Cut off the tips of asparagus with a fork, and convey them to the mouth upon it.
The leaves of artichokes are picked off with the fin- gers, and the ends opposite the tops are eaten. Lettuce should not be cut up, but handled with the fork only.

Breakfast
A breakfast should invariably begin with fruit, suc- ceeded by a fish course, an entrée-preferably of some concoction of eggs-one meat, a salad, and a "sweet," concluding with coffee. Sweetbreads or mushrooms may replace the egg course. The meat selected is usually broiled chicken, with which the salad would be served, or salmi of duck, cutlets, or chicken à la Creole, when the salad would form a separate course, with toasted biscuits and some fine cheese. Game is not out of place at an elaborate breakfast; but as it is usually an informal repast, many courses are out of place. Ices are not served at a breakfast.
To show that entertaining need not be costly to be enjoyable, I may cite the example of one impecunious hostess, who invited a few friends to a breakfast which her guests remember with pleasure.
At each place was an orange, cut transversely, the pulp loosened from the skin, as grape-fruit is pre- pared, and eaten with a spoon. A spray of laurel
