Rev. G. P. Mueller, Superintendent and Housefather.
May 11th 1891, Mr. Kensil Wills was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of R. B. Miller, Esq., and Mr. Frederick Bauer was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the discharge of J. C. File.
Sept. 7th, 1891, Mrs. J. Riedt resigned as Matron of the Asylum ; and Mrs. L. Pietzsch elected to that position.
Oct. 5th 1891, Mr. C. F. Kuhnle and wife resigned as Superin- tendent and Matron, respectively : and, their resignations having been accepted, a unanimous call was given the Rev. Geo. P. Mueller to be- come Superintendent and Housefather of the Home and Asylum, and Mrs. A. C. Mueller to become Matron of the Home .- These calls were accepted, and Rev. Mueller was publicly installed, in the Asy- lum Chapel, Dec. 2nd, 1891.
Nov. 9th, 1891, Miss R. Weegman resigned as teacher of the Kindergarten ; and Miss Beta Kaessman elected to fill the vacancy, entering on her duties Febr. 8th, 1892.
Nov. 9th, 1891, the Lady Visitors having petitioned the Board to recognize their committees and give them more power and authority in the care and management of the different duties aud departments of the institutions, and fully persuaded that better work could be done, stricter oversight be had, matters be more expeditiously handled and more gratifying results attained by closer contact and cooperation, the Board granted their request.
Dec. 29th, 1892, the Christmas Festival was celebrated, being well attended and the inmates liberally provided with the usual good cheer.
March 11th, 1892, the public examination of the Schools was held, showing a more systematic conduct, a commendable progress and general improvement. The anniversary will be celebrated in St. Mark's English Lutheran Church, Dr. S. Laird, on April 24th, 1892, at 3 P. M.
In the beginning of 1892 the Home was visited by "La Grippe", nearly all the children being afflicted and some severely prostrated. Thanks to the God of the fatherless, no case however, resulted fatally. -Grateful recognition is due the teachers for their untiring aid in helping to care for the sick.
Dr. Shellenberger, having cheerfully rendered efficient and faith- ful service for so many years as physician to the Home and Asylum, owing to increased demands on his time and to growing years felt
- 3 -
constrained to give up caring for the Home, but has consented to serve the Asylum. The Church owes him unstinted thanks for his long continued labor of patience and love voluntarily given.
The year has witnessed many and thorough changes in both in- stitutions .- The management in the Home and the Asylum is new. The buildings have undergone most extensive repairs .- New floors have been laid, stairs built, banisters added and porticoes strengthened ; whilst inside, but especially outside, the buildings have been painted. -The schoolroom of the Home has been thoroughly overhauled, and now is replete with the latest improved desks, benches, chairs, charts, maps and books, whils appropriate scriptural pictures and emblems help to adorn and brighten the room, at a total cost of $231.02. Through the untiring efforts of the Lady Visitors the Home has been furnished complete with new beds and bedding and new carpet ; and all the sleeping apparatus of the Asylum has been thoroughly renovated, at a total cost of $1245.35 .- The cooking and dining de- partments have also been overhauled and replenished. A beautiful sideboard, complete in every part, has been donated by the young men of St. Paul's German Lutheran Church of Philadelphia, and the spare room of the Home given a complete outfit by St. Mark's Engl. Church of Williamsport, Pa .- Thus the good work has gone on, until nearly all of the antiquated and cumbersome stuff has been thrown out of the camp ; and none too soon.
The financial standing of the Institutions to-day is excellent, as the Treasurer's Annual Report will abundantly demonstrate. Many and severe drains have been made on the treasury .- But it has met every demand, so that every bill is paid and every obligation is met, and no less than $3000 have been paid out for sorely needed improve- ments. No bills are paid unless examined and approved and proper orders drawn ; and no investments are made until necessary searches have been made and all proper legal requirements have been satisfied ; the Finance Committee first passing on everything .- Monthly and quarterly reports are regularly made .- The Treasurer is under bond. -A number of larger and smaller legacies have been received from charitable friends until now the Endowment Fund is $30,589.68.
Under the efficient and conscientious management of the new Housefather a stricter oversight is had, earnest pastoral care afforded, and spiritual interest fostered, whilst careful though not stinted econ- omy is practiced in every particular .- The Treasurer deserves grate- ful recognition for his untiring and scrupulous exactness, as also the Lady Visitors and Rev. Wischan who have spared themselves no pains in an honest and earnest endeavor to make these institutions an honor and ornament to the charity and goodness of our Church .- God has opened the hearts of many kind friends; and pastors, con- gregations and friends, even in distant parts, have done nobly in be- half of the poor and helpless whom God has placed in our trust .-
-4-
The Board is pleased at any time to accept the invitations of pastors and[congregations to come and present the cause of the Orphan and and Aged .- Surely, "God hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad" .- To Him, and under Him, to every kind friend, be all thanks.

Jesus, still lead on, When we seek relief From a long-felt grief ; When temptations come alluring, Make us patient and enduring : Show us that bright shore Where we weep no more!
Till our Rest be won ! And although the way be cheerless, We will follow, calm und fearless. Guide us by Thy hand To our Fatherland.
If the way be drear,
If the foe be near,
Let not faithless fears o'ertake us, Let not faith and hope forsake us ; For through many a foe
To our home we go !
Jesus, still lead on, Till our Rest be won : Heavenly Leader, still direct us, Still support, console, protect us, Till we safely stand In our Fatherland !
