GENTLEMEN,


Aº GREEABLE to a late act of. affembly, paffed the 25th of June 178 t, entitled, " An act for recruiting the Pennfylvania " line in the art ,y of the united ftates," You are required to enlift, for the term of eighteen months from the ift of July 1781, and deliver to the under mentioned continental officers, or either of them, within fifteen days front this date, one able bodied recruit, (not 'being a de- ferter from the army or navy of the united ftates, or the British army) fuch recruit, when enlifted and entered into the Pennfylvania line, to receive the fame pay, rations and clothes as the troops of this ftate now in the fervice of the united ftates, and alfo half way- during life, if difabled in the fervice. Such recruit to be'allo atlefted before fome juftice of the peace .- On failure of procuring fuch recruit, or making return to the affeffor of your townfhip, ward or diftrict, your clafs will become liable to pay fuch fum of money as the commiffion- ers, townthip, ward or diftrict affefors fhall agree to pay any recruit which fhall be engaged by them refpectively for your clafs)

N. B. Agreeable to the tenth fection of the above act, any perfon enlifting and de aring to the proper officer one able be. jed recruit, fhall be exempted from all militia duty during the above term of enliftment.


The recruits are to be delivered to the following officers, viz.


Philadelphia city and county : -- To lieutenant colonel Mentgez, captain Keene, or captain Jackfon, at Philadelphia.


Bucks and Northampton : - Colonel Craig, captain James Chrif- tie, and captain Claypoole, or either of them, at Eafton and Newtown. Chefter : - Lieutenant colonel Noarth, captain Lufk, or captain Kennedy, at the Yellow Spring.


Lancafter : - Major Grier, or captam Patton, at Lebanon ; cap- tain Turnbull, for the artillery, at Lancafter ; major Fonntleroy, for the cavalry, at Lancafter.


York : - Major James Moore, or captain Burke, at M'Callifter's town.


Cumberland - Colonel Butter, or captain Parker es Carlife.


Berks : --- Captain John Chriftie, or captain Bowers, at Reading. Northumberland, Bedford and Weftmoreland :- The lieutenants of the respective counties. -
