BROWN'S ESSENCE JAMAICA GINGER,

MANUFACTURED ONLY AT

FREDERICK BROWN'S DRUG AND CHEMICAL STORE, N. E. Cor. Fifth & Chestnut Sts., Philadelphia.

Attention is called to this valuable remedy, which should be in every family, and for the Army and Navy it is indispensable, euring affections of the stomach and bowels, and is a certain preventive from the effects of bad water.

CAUTION .- To prevent this valuable Essence from being counterfeited, a new Steel Engraving, executed at great cost, will be found on the outside of the wrapper, in order to guard the purchaser against being imposed upon by worthless imitations.

BROWN'S ESSENCE OF JAMAICA GINGER .- We would call the attention of our readers to the advertisement of this valuable remedy, which, independent of the necessity of its being in every household, should be distributed among our brave volunteers. It is easily carried, and would be the means of saving life, as a teaspoonful in a little water restores a soldier who gives out from fatigue and exposure to the sun, relieves at once affections of the stomach and bowels, and as a Colonel of one of the regiments now on duty in Virginia says, " He would as soon go to the field without gunpowder, as without F. BROWN's Essence of Jamaica Ginger."-Philadelphia Inquirer.

F. BROWN'S ESSENCE OF GINGER AND CHOLERA MIXTURE .- We cannot do the public greater service at this season, than to call their attention to the above valuable remedy, which should be in the hands of every family, while no person about to travel should leave the city without them Every officer and soldier should have a bottle, as it immediately restores when overcome from fatigue or exposure to the sun, aud is indispensable .- Evening Bulletin.

ALSO,

BROWN'S CHOLERA MIXTURE, For the Prevention and Treatment of

CHOLERA AND DIARRHOA. PREPARED ONLY BY FREDERICK BROWN, Northeast corner of FIFTH and CHESTNUT Streets, Philadelphia. And sold by all respectable Druggists in the United States.

The Decimal System of Numbering Houses.

One Hundred Numbers are set apart for each square, and the initial

or starting-points are at the Delaware River and Market Street.

Persons can, hy merely looking at the numbers on the Houses,

know how many squares they are from the Delaware or Market Street.

By-Streets are numbered as though they extended to the Delaware

or Market Street.

Numbers properly arranged, suggest distances to the mind; but improperly placed, they lead to confusion.

SCHENCK'S

PULMONIC SYRUP,

For the Cure of Consumption, Coughs & Colds.

The great virtue of this medicine is, that it ripens the matter and throws it out of the system, purifies the blood, and thus effects a cure.

L

SCHENCK'S MANDRAKE PILLS,

For the Cure of Liver Complaint, &c.

These Pills are alterative, and produce a healthy actiou of the Liver, without the least danger, as they are free from Calomel, and yet more efficacious in restoring a healthy action of the Liver.

SCHENCK'S SEA-WEED TONIC,

For the Cure of Dyspepsia, Indigestion, &c.

The Tonic produces a healthy action of the Stomach, creating an appetite, forming chyle, and curing the most obstinate cases of Indiges- tion.

The above is a correct likeness of DR. SOHENCK taken many years ago, after he had recovered from Consumption by a course of SCHENCK'S PULMONIC SYRUP. The like- ness although it does not represent him anything like as bad as he was at the worst, yet it is in strong contrast with the hale and vigorous looks of the portrait below, which is the true likeness of him at the present time. The con- trast between these two portraits is so great that many would not believe them to be the same person.

These remedies are a certain cure for Con- sumption, as the PULMONIC SYRUP ripens the matter and purifies the blood. The MAN- DRAKE PILLS act upon the Liver, create a healthy bile, and remove all disease of the Liver, often a cause of Consumption. The SEA-WEED TONIC gives tone and strength to the Stomach, makes a good digestion, and enables the organs to form good blood, and thus creates a healthy circulation of healthy blood. The combined action of these Medicines, as thus explained, will cure every case of Consumption, if taken in time, and the use of the Medicines perse- vered in.

DR. SCHENCK'S principal Office and Labora- tory is at the Northeast corner of SIXTH and COMMERCE Streets, Philadelphia, where all letters for advice or business should be directed. He will be found there every SATURDAY, profes- sionally to examine lungs with the Respirome- ter, for which his fee is three dollars ; all advice free. In NEW YORK, at 32 BOND STREET, every TUESDAY, from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. At the MARL- BORO' HOTEL, BOSTON, January 18 and 19, Feb- ruary 15 and 16, March 13 and 16, April 19 and 20, May 17 and 18, June 13 and 15, July 19 and 20. The time for my being in BALTI- MORE and PITTSBURGH will be seen in the daily papers of those cities.
