PHILADELPHIA BATHS,
CORNER OF SEVENTH AND GEORGE STS. NEAR CHESNUT STREET.
The building has the advantage of being located in one of the most retired, airy, and at the same time central positions in the city. It con- tains two distinct range of apartments, appropriated for each of the sexes, having several and separate entrances, the best female attend- ance is provided for the service of the ladies .- The establishment con- tains upwards of fifty Baths, which includes.more than twenty marble ones lately imported from Italy, made expressly for this establishment, and the residue are of plated copper, zinc, &c. Every provision exists for Shower Bathing ; this salutary application can therefore be enjoyed at pleasure by means of appropriate contrivances under the complete controul of the individuals using it. A swimming room has been con- structed for the accommodation of such as are fond of this recreation, and those who are ignorant of that necessary qualification can acquire it without hazard, and the temperature of the water equalled by steam.
The efforts of the proprietor have been strenuous, and the prepara- tions very munificent in this splendid and spacious establishment, and the proprietor feels entitled to public patronage because no expense has been spared to complete every appurtenance, and combine every re- quisite for their perfection.
It may not be amiss to give some of the observations of the celebrated Count Rumford to prove that warm bathing is more conducive to health than any luxury that can be enjoyed in a populous city, its beneficial effects are particularly described as follows :
" It is not merely on account of the advantages," says the Count, "which I happened to receive from warm Bathing, which renders me so much an advocate for the practice: exclusive of the wholesomeness of the warm Bath, the luxury of bathing is so great, and the tranquil state of the mind and body, which follows, is so exquisitely delightful, that I think it quite impossible to recommend it too highly, if we con- sider it merely as a rational and elegant refinement." " The manner in which the warm Bath operates," he continues, "in producing its salu- tary consequences, seems very evident. The genial warmth which is so applied to the skin; in the place of the cold air of the atmosphere, by which we are commonly surrounded, expands all those very small vessels, where the extremities of the arteries and veins unite, and by gently stimulating the whole frame, produces a full and free circula- tion ,which if continued for a certain time, removes all obstructions in the vascular system, and puts all the organs in that state of regular, free and full motion, which is essential to health, and also to that de- lightful repose, accompanied by a consciousness of that power of exer- tion which constitutes the highest animal enjoyment of which we are capable.
WM. SWAIM, Proprietor.
REV. T. BARTHOLOMEW'S (M. D.) ELIXIR OF LIFE, For the cure of Agues and every kind of Fevers, Dysentery, Dropsy, Inflammation of the Lungs, &c. &c. &c.
Rev. Dr. Bartholemew's Elixir of life, a recent and the most valuable discovery yet known for the following complaints -It will cure the Ague in one day, the Bloody flux, or dysente- ry, in a few hours. Every kind of fever it allays in the short space of 15 minutes. It cures the Scarlet . fever in a few hours, and has com- pletely eradicated the yellow fever in nine- teen so that the patient could walk abroad the next day. It relieves the heart burn in five minutes: the inflamation of the lungs in less than an hour-It has been used in the dropsy with complete success; the piles, inward and outward, it cured in a day or two. It has re- cently cured the liver complaint. although the patient had been greviously afflicted for 12 years. It cures nervous complaints, whether mentally or bodily. In the above cases the disease seldom returned.
Bartholomew's Elixir of Life has no mercu- ry or barks in its composition. By taking a few spoonsful of it daily, it tends to keep the system in perfect health, draws from the sickly constitution all impurities, and trans- forms the sallow complexion into a healthy and ruddy hue.
Certificates are given with the goods. Dr. Bartholomew's Elixir of Life will keep in any climate and any length of time.
Sold Wholesale and Retail at C. & A. OLDRIDGE'S Manufactories, No. 1, Wel- lington St. Strand, London, and No. 47, Prune St. Philadelphia ;- likewise by most of the respectable Druggists and Perfumers through- out the Union .- Price ONE DOLLAR per Bottle.
FOR THE HAIR. OLDRIDGE'S CHEMICAL BALM OF COLUMBIA.
Which will prevent the HAIR FROM FALL- ING OFF, and restore it again in bald places, improved in its colour, strength and perfume .- The grand capillary virtues of the Balm of Columbia are as follow-one bottle price 50 cents, prevents the hair from falling off in 48 hours from its first application, or causes a new growth of whiskers in a few weeks. A bottle price 75 cents will not only stop the hair from falling off but likewise in 3 weeks causes a new growth to appear : and one at a dollar gives in general a good head of hair to a young person. It prevents the hair from turning gray, and makes it curl berutifully look bright and glossy, and in a few applications frees it from scurf, and entirely removes nervous head aches. It is, by repeated experiments, found to bear every sort of climate, without the least injury to its virtues.
. Any lady or gentleman, whose hair is falling off, and doubts the above statements, may have their hair stayed gratis, by applying to Mr. Georges, No. 55} South Front street, any morning between 8 and 10 (Sundays except- ed) where references will be given.
Copies of Certificates will be shown by the venders from gentlemen, who after being bald for a number of years, have received a new growth of hair.
