This is to certify, that the Iron Chest of 2ft. 2in. high and 18in. wide which we now deliver to Mr. John Scott, of Philadelphia, (and who, we have been credibly informed, made it,) was in our counting house du- ring the destructive fire, 15th July last, on Smith's Wharf in this city; it contained all our important books, and several valuable papers, and also, several bank notes, all of which were taken out in a safe condi- tion, after being in the midst of the flames about two hours; the Chest was heated RED HOT, as its appearance still indicates. Baltimore, 24th October, 1832. WM. CARSON & CO.

I have had one of Mr. John Scott's Iron Fire Proof Chests in my counting house for the last year, and during that time, have had my counting house broken open twice, and robbed of what could be ob- tained; but my books, papers, &c. entirely preserved from depreda- tion; having been kept in the Chest. At one time in particular, every exertion was made to break it open, but without success. It was also rolled to the door, for the purpose of taking it off, but the attempt was unsuccessful. A long dissertation on the virtues and healing effects of this elegant preparation would savour too much of the common quack- ery of the day; it is therefore deemed sufficient to state, that it has proved of singular efficacy in relieving the troublesome and alarm- ing symptoms of ASTHMA, COUGHS, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, and other Complaints of the Chest, so usual in the Spring and Au- tumn, and which if not immediately attended to, will too often, induce incurable disease of the Lungs.

Having constructed a machine, or apparatus for the purpose of teaching the principle and practice of perspective, on a plan that carries conviction to the understanding, by ocular demonstration, gives lectures thereon; eliciting the whole phenomena of this de- lightful, but hitherto much neglected science: in a manner adapted to the comprehension of those not acquainted with mathematics.
From the simplicity of its operations, it is clearly understood on inspection; and while it becomes of real utility to the painter and artizan, it furnishes an inexhaustible source of mental gratification to 'amateurs, ladies and gentlemen, desirous of gracing their liberal education: as such the author respectfully solicits the patronage of all friends to the diffusion of useful knowledge.
