of their use, he escaped from five Hun machines and piloted his plane home using only his feet and knees. He lost his life at the end simply be- cause he hadn't the physical strength left to make a proper landing. He had made a new altitude record in a plane with a Liberty Motor by as- cending nearly 25,000 feet in 34 minutes.
