KILLED IN BATTLE AND DIED OF DISEASE.

Sergeant-Oliver F. Musselman,*

Killed in the battle of Antietam, September 17, 1862.

Corporal-Joseph Shadel,

Died November 28, 1862, at Belle Plains, Va., of disease.

*Sergeant Musselman possessed those beautiful traits of character which constitute the good soldier,-morality, intelligence, unflinching bravery, and devotion. Though only twenty years of age, his manly qualities had won for him the admiration and love of all who knew him. Generous and noble-hearted to a fault, his loss was deeply felt by his friends and companions in arms. In the bloody battle of Antietam, when his regiment' was relieved, though already once wounded, he refused to leave the field, and joining with the Irish Bri- gade in one of their irresistible charges, he fell at the head of the column shot through the brain.

GENERAL CHARLES ALBRIGHT.

GENERAL CHARLES ALBRIGHT.

This officer attained the highest rank conferred upon any of Carbon County's soldiers. He is the only one of the large number of gallant officers who represented Carbon County in the army during the war, who attained a higher rank than that of Colonel. General Albright entered the army as Major of the 132nd Regiment P. V., his commission dating August 22, 1862. At the battle of Antietam, Md., four weeks later, he distinguished himself by unsurpassed coolness and bravery. On September 28th, 1862, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, in which capacity he com- manded his regiment through the valley from Harper's Ferry to the Rappahannock, and at the battle of Fredericksburg, December 13th, 1862. In this bloody conflict his indomita- ble courage and unflinching bravery won for him the most flattering encomiums from his Brigade and Division com- manders. On the 26th of January, 1863, he was promoted to Colonel. During the winter and spring of 1863, he mo-t of the time commanded a Brigade in the 3rd Division, 2nd Army Corps.

At the battle of Chancellorsville, in May, 1863, during the fierce fighting of the third day, Colonel Albright rendered splendid service with his little Brigade, in repelling the ad- vance of the enemy.

The term of service of his regiment having expired shortly after this battle, he was mustered out, and returned to private life-which proved, however, to be of short duration.
