THE Speaker of the houfe of reprefentatives receives 12 dollars, and each member of either houfe the fum of fix dollars for every day's attendance in Congrefs : and at the commencement and end of every feffion fix dollars for every twenty miles diftant by the fhorteft road, be. tween the feat of government and their refpective habi- tations. The fecretary of the fenate and clerk of the houfe of reprefentatives, have each an annual falary of 1500 dollars, and two dollars per day during the feffion.


After the 4th. of March 1795, the members of the fe- nate will receive feven dollars per day.


The chaplains of each houfe are allowed at the rate 500 dollars per annum. The Serjeant at arms of the houfe of reprefentatives has four dollars per day during the feffion. The door keepers have each 500 dollars ; and the affiftant door keepers 450 dollars per annum.

GOLD COINS


Eagles, eachi to be of the value of ten dollars, and to contain 247 4ths grains pure, or 270 grains of ftandard gold.


Half-Eagles, each to be of the value of five dollars, and to contain 123 6ths grains of pure, or 135 grains of ftandard gold


Quarter-Eagles, each to be ofthe value of two dollars and an half, and to contain 61 2ths grains of pure, and 67 4ths grains of ftandard gold.


SILVER COINS.


Dollars or units, each to be of the value of a Spanish milled dollar, and to contain 371 4 ths grains of pure, or 416 grains of ftandard filver.


Half-Dollars, each to be of half the value of the dol- lar or unit, and to contain 185 46ths grains of pure, or 208 grains ftandard filver.


Quarter-Dollars, cach to be one fourth of the value of the dollar or unit, and to contain 92 42ths grains of pure, or 104 grains of ftandard filver.


Difines, each to be the value of one tenth of the dol- lar or unit, and to contain 37 225ths grains of pure, or 4: 2ths grains of ftandard filver.


Half Difmes, each to be'of the value of one twentieth of a dollar, and to contain 18 ,9%ths grains of pure, or 20 4ths grains of ftandard filver.


By an act of January 14th, 1793, the weight of the cents and half-cents, is cftablifhed as follows :


Cents, each of the value of the hundredth part of a dollar, to contain 208 grains, and half cents to contain 104 grains of copper.


A pound of pure gold is valued equal to fifteen pounds pure filver .- Gold coins are to confift of eleven parts pure gold, and one part alloy.


The ftandard of filver coins fhall be 1485 parts fine, to 179 parts alloy.


Perfons in poffeffion of bullion may have it coined free of expence.


By an act of May 8th, 1792,-It is enacted, That the cents and half-cents, as they fhall be coined, be paid in- 10 the treafury of the United States, thence to iffue into circulation; and that after the expiration of fix calen-

dar months from the time when there fhall have been paid into the treafury a fum not lefs than 50,coo dollars, in cents and half-cenis, (of which notice fhall be given in at leaft two news papers, publifhed at the feat of go- vernment;) no other copper coins fhall pafs as current money, and every perfon paying, offering to pay, or receiving in payment, any other coin, excepting cents and half- cents, fhall forfeit the faid coin, and alfo the fum of ten dollars with cofts of fuit for the benefit of the perfon by whom information fhall have been given.


Money of account of the United States Shall be expreff- ed in dollars or units, difmes or tenths, cents or hun- dredths, and mills or thoufandths; a difme being the tenth of a dollar, a cent the hundredth, and a mill the thoufandth. And all accounts in the public offices, and all proceedings in the courts of juftice, fhall be kept and had in conformity to this act.


A great number of cents have been already iffued- fome hundreds of dollars have alfo been coined, and from the moft indubitable authority the editer can an- nounce to the public, that a much greater quantity of gold and filver has been depofited for the purpofe of coin- age, than thofe who were beft acquainted with the bufi- nefs at firft expected.

The Mails for Cantwell's Bridge, Duck Creek, and Dover, will be clofed every Monday with the Eaftern Shore Mail, and return with the fame every Thurfday.


The Mail for Frederica, Milford, Clowes, Dagfbo- rough, Horatown, Accomack, and Northampton Court- boufe, will be clofed on Monday the 14th of January at half paft eight o'clock A. M. and afterwards every fe- cond Monday, and will arrive at Philadelphia on Thurf- day the 17th of January, and afterwards every fecond Thursday.


The Mail for Lancafter, York Town, Carlife, Ship- penfburg, Chamberfburg, Bedford, Greenfburg, and Pittfburg, will be clofed every Saturday at half paft ele- ven o'clock A. M. and arrive at Philadelphia every Fri- day at noon.


The Mail for Reading, Lebanon, Harrifburg, and Carlifle, will be clofed every Tuefday at 3 o'clock, P. M. and arrive at Philadelphia on Thurfdays at noon.

All news papers are to be charged with the payment of one cent for every diftance not more than 100 miles, and one cent and an half for any greater diftance; but printers of news papers may fend one paper to each and every other printer of news papers in the United States free of all expence.

Difcounts are made on perfonal fecurity only, with at leaft two refponfible names, for a term not exceeding 60 days ; three days of grace are allowed on all bills or notes payable to the Bank, and difcount is taken for the fame.


Bills or notes left at the Bank are prefented for accept- ance and the money collected free of expence; but in cafe of non-payment and proteft, the expence muft be paid by the perfon lodging the note or bill.


Payments made at the Bank muft be examined at the îime, and no error fuggefted afterwards will be correct- ed. ‹

This Bank is kept open from 9 o'clock until r, and from 3 until 5, every day in the year, (except Sundays, Chriftmas day, and 4th of July.


All bills and notes offered for difcount, muft be deli- vered on Tuefday and Friday in each week and laid be- fore the board of directors on the next fucceeding days refpectively, on which days the difcounts will be fettled, and may be drawn for accordingly, at any time after 3 o'clock .- Notes or bills not difcounted, fhall be return- ed at any time after 3 o'clock on the fame day.
