COMPLETE HISTORY OF GERMANY.

History of Germany, from the earliest period to the present time, by Kohrausch, late Professor of History in the Polytechnic School of Hanover, translated from the last German edition, by: James D. Hans.

THE CULTIVATOR.

FIRST SERIES.

The first series of "The Cultivator," consists of ten volumes," quarto, commencing in 1834, and terminating with the year 1843 ..

It was commeneed by the late Judge Buel-its motto and its . object, "To improve the Soil and the Mind." Faithful to this great end, the Cultivator from the first took a high rank among the periodicals of the time; and rapidly extending its influence and securing the aid of able co-laborers, while it-numbered among its contributors the most distinguished'and intelligent of American agriculturists, its position, as an organ of the farming interests of this country, soon became second to no other journal of its kind, in circulation and' usefulness. From the first it has been the de- pository of a mass of facts in relation to agriculture, rarely found in any series of volumes; and the favor with which it has been viewed, and the ample support accorded to it, may be in a great measure attributed to the practical'nature and value of the papers with which it has been filled."

The first six volumes contain the rich fruits of the labour, ex -- periments, and matured experience of Judge Buel. At the time " of his lamented decease, the Cultivator passed into the hands of the Proprietor and Editors of the. Genesee Farmer, with which publication it was united, and by whom it has since been conduc- ted. Of the four volumes that have been published since it pass- · ed into the hands of the present conductors, it does not become. them to speak ; but if the large, not to say, unprecedented support they have received, and the numerous testimonials of approvalfree- ly given them, may be taken as evidence of the manner in which. their labors have been viewed by the public, they have abundant reason to be satisfied. This high standing of the Cultivator, no. pains or expense will be spared to maintain. In matter,in execu -- tion, in its illustrations, it is intended it shall be without an. equal . or rival :- that it shall be eminently worthy of. the name, which .. has been given it, of

"THE FARMER'S LIBRARY."

Embodying as it does, the practice of numbers of the ablest agri -- culturists of the country, it is believed no work can be found, from : which the information, in all its details, so necessary for the Ame -- rican farmer, can be obtained so perfectly or at so little cost, as- from the Cultivator. The series, in truth, constitute a Farmer's . Library of the most comprehensive kind. As the work is stereo --

typed, the whole series can be furnished to those who wish it,. and the constant demand for the back volumes proves that it is in " the light of a library for the farmer the whole work is viewed by the public.

The first four volumes are furnished stitched, at 50 cents each, and the remainder at $1,00 each-making the price of the series of ten volumes, $8,00.

The"whole series, or such volumes as may be wanted to com- plete sets, may be ordered through the agent.

THE CHEAPEST AND BEST GEOGRAPHY IN EXIS- TENCE, which every School and Family should possess-Re -- cently published. Morse's New Geography, illustrated with Geo- graphic Maps. Price only 50 cents.

"We have gleaned through this work, and we think that we have never seen any initiary text-book on the same subject that so well merits the attention of parents and teachers .- W. Journal.

.A System of Geography for the use of Schools, illustrated with. more than fifty cerographic maps, and numerous wood cut engra- ving's, by 'Sidney E. Morse. New York, Harpers. We have no hesitation in giving this book a preference over any that we have yet examined, for its special purpose. The maps (which are co- lored) are on the same pages with the explanatory letter press --- an arrangement obviously so important to the easy acquisition of geographical knowledge, that we might wonder that ever anv other plan should ever have been adopted .- The printing is well executed for a book desigued to be cheap. Every line in the maps is agreeably distinct. The wood cuts must be attractive as well as instructive to young students. The success of this publi- cation cannot be doubted .- United States Gazette.

This Geography has the great advantage of presenting the Map and Description on the same page, or on pages directly opposite, so that the pupil can readily refer from one to the other. The Maps are more numerous, and generally on a larger scale than in any other school geography. The Exercises ou the Maps are so framed as to present a connected view of the great natural fea- fures of each country. The Descriptions are in a series of short paragraphs, written in a remarkably concise' style, and confined to the most interesting and characteristic matter. The General and Comparative Views at the end of the volume are admirably fitted to strengthen the judgment. The whole work is the result of years of careful study. It is printed on fine paper, in the same beautiful style as Harper's Illuminated Bible, and the new art of Cerography, now applied for the first time to a work of this kind, enables the publishers to make it the cheapest school geography ever issued. Price 50 cents, for sale wholesale and retail, with a full assortment of School Books, by J. GISH,

DUNLAP'S BOOK OF FORMS.

A Book of Forms, containing more than six hundred pages of the most approved precedents for Conveyancing, and the Practice in the Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and in the Courts of Admiralty ; also, for use in public offices, and for men of business generally ; adapted to the present acts of Assembly. "With explanatory Notes and References, and a glossary of Tech- nical Law Terms, by James D. Dunlap, Counsellor at Law, &c.

The above work is comprised in an octavo volume of 360 pages, neatly bound in law sheep, and is for sale at the very low price of $1,50 per copy.

From the Hon. Archibald Randall, Judge of the District Court of the United States, for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia, April 16, 1845.

Gentlemen-I have examined the sheets of "Dunlap's Con- veyancing and Forms" submitted to me, and have no hesitation in recommending it as superior to any work of the kind now in use here. The number of useful forms not heretofore in print, and their admirable arrangement will render it invaluable to the pro- fession, and very useful to the citizen engaged in other pursuits.

Very respectfully, yours, &c., ARCHIBALD RANDALL.

From the Hon. Alexander L. Hayes, President Judge of the District Court for the city and county of Lancaster, Pennsylva- nia.

Lancaster, April 5, 1845.

Gentlemen- Having examined the proof sheets of the greater portion of " Dunlap's Conveyancing and Forms," I believe this work will furnish the public with a very desirable guide in the transaction of business. Its importance must be obvious to all who are conversant with courts of justice, and know how much of the litigation with which they are occupied, arises from ill pre- pared writings. Hence the disastrous mistakes so often observed in last wills, deeds, written agreements, and other instruments, drawn by unskilful hands, without the aid of precedents. Such evils the work of Mr. Dunlap is well adapted to prevent, being judiciously planned, and so far as I have examined it, executed with judgment and ability. It will doubtless prove most useful to the community at large, and be of no little assistance to the le- gal profession. A wide circulation is therefore much to be wished ; and this I am glad to learn you have provided for by a large edi- tion and a moderate price.

A. L. HAYES.

From the Hon. Ellis Lewis, President Judge, of the Second Judi- cial District of Pennsylvania, composed of the county of Lan- caster.

Lancaster, January 8, 1845.

Dear Sirs :- I have examined the manuscript copy of " Dun- lap's Conveyancing and Forms," and am truly rejoiced to perceive

that the legal profession, and the business community are about to be presented with a work of so much value. The many . changes made in the legislation of the State, and our increasing business in the Orphans' Court, have rendered such a work ne- cessary. From the examination I have made, and from the high character for ability of Mr. Dunlap, I can cordially recommend the work to the profession and to the public.

ELLIS LEWIS.

OPP Few works have come to us with stronger recommenda- tions than the above, and few that are so deserving of notice .- Scarcely one of the president judges of the interior courts has omitted to give it his endorsal, and we venture to believe that it will find its way intn almost every professional library in the State, as well as into the book cases of many business men, who may find it cheaper to take a notice to quit or a form for a mecha- nics' lien from, an established authority, than to pay a' lawyer for doing the same thing. Mr. Dunlap has collected every form ne- cessary for court purposes as by latest tribunal correction, and there is no doubt that much litigation and trouble would be saved if his book could be introduced into general use. The earnest re- commendations of such men as Judge King, Judge Lewis, Judge Hayes, Judge Conyngham, Judge Banks, and Judge Reed, will do more to ensure its success than any language of our own; and it is unnecessary to do more than state, in the words of one of them, that " it is one of the best books of its kind," and that " it will prove most useful to the community at large, and be of no little assistance to the legal profession." It is printed on clear · type and good paper, and though containing every form necessary for general use, is not so large as to make it cumbrous. We are glad to learn that its cheap price and large edition will combine to . adapt it to the practical object which it was intended to meet. Mr. Dunlap's high reputation as a lawyer is such as to give every as- surance which might be necessary as to its accuracy and complete- ness .- United States · Gazette.
