There may be como difference of opinion as to the impartance and worth of tho minestrial career of the Rev. John Casper Stoover. The recently published Journalo of the Rev. Henry Kolchior Kuhlenbarg especially cast certain a :porsions on this othor Lutheran minister in the carly days of Pennsylvania church history. Fat there can be no doubt of the great value to genealogists and family historians of the written records which the Rev. Stoover left behind him.
These records of baptisms and marriages among the Pennsylvania Lutheran con- grosations were first printod, in translated form, in Bolo's Notes and Queries and in a seperate individual pamphlet, entitled Records of Rev. John Casper Stocver- Boptional and Marriage - 173"-1779. This was in Harrisburg in 1896. Unfortunately neither of these printed transcriptions of Stoever's records are complete. For some reason or other the baptists as printed begin in 1731. A comparison with the original record book of the R v. Stoever (now in the Pennsylvania Historical Society at Philadelphia) shows that the first four pages of his baptismal racord, actually beginning in 1722, were not transcribed.
Following are the entries on thes : four peres af earlier baptisms, taken from the original in Stoever's handwriting, (with apologies for possible ris-malings of names, since the Rev. Stoever had peculiarities in his hand writing, especially as regards certain letters. An alphabetical index of family names in the earlier records, which he tarted in the back of the book, helps in identifying cortiin forno of initial letters i .: particular. Tho names of places of residence arc riven here in their more anual spelling, rather than as steever wrote the.
