INTRODUCTORY.

We present herewith the second volume of R. L. Polk & Co.'s Provo City and Utah County Directory, believing it will fill a long-felt want among the business and professional men of Utah Valley, and that it will be found most complete in every department.

The general features of the work consist of an alphabetical list of the business firms, corporations, professional men and private citizens of Provo, American Fork, Lehi, Payson, Spanish Fork and Springville, all of which will be found on pages 34 to 280, inclusive. The Provo alphabetical directory comes first, beginning on page 34 and ending on page 136. The alphabetical lists of each of the other cities follow after Provo in the order mentioned above (Pages 137 to 280).

Following this is the List of Land Owners and Farmers of Utah County, beginning on page 281 and ending on page 314. These names have been obtained from the Official Tax Lists at Provo and are there- fore considered correct. Only owners of farms of ten (10) acres or over are given, and not the names of owners of town lots or small par- cels of land. Following the name of each land owner is given: First, number of acres owned; second, the assessed valuation of same; third, owner's post office address.

Following the above is the Classified Business Directory (Pages 315 to 338). In this section of the work, every line of business and profes- sion is arranged in alphabetical order, with the names of all persons engaged in such business or profession, following under each heading.

Attention is called to the Provo Street Guide (pages 9 to 11) and to the Miscellaneous Department (pages 13 to 33). In this department will be found a complete roster of the City, County, State and United States officers, Police and Fire Departments, Terms of Courts, Provo Post Office, Rates of Postage, Churches, with names of pastors and time of services, Clubs and Societies, Colleges and Schools, News- papers, Public Buildings and Halls, Railroads, Secret and Benevolent Organizations, Wards and Boundaries, etc., etc.

Attention is also called to page 6, on which will be found an index, giving the number of page on which any desired information can be obtained. This index should be referred to by all, until they become familiar with the different departments of the work.

We estimate the present population of Utah County to be 38,957, and the population of the cities represented in this volume as follows:

Provo ..

7,422 Payson 3,163

American Fork 3,279 Spanish Fork 3,302

Lehi

3,263

Springville 4,107

This Directory is placed in the libraries of the directory offices of all the important cities of the country, where it is frequently consulted by non-residents, persons seeking investments, travelers, etc., and where it serves as a lasting advertisement for the city, its business men and its public and private institutions. To the many friends who have kindly furnished needed information and to the business men of the city who have stood by us so loyally in this publication, we return our hearty thanks, and promise on our part that we will publish the Provo City and Utah County Directory regurarly hereafter, with such improvements from time to time as the wants of our patrons may require.
