INTRODUCTORY.
In presenting this, the 3rd edition of our Provo City and Utah County Directory, we desire to thank our patrons for their generous support and the public in general for courtesies extended to us in its preparation.
This Directory has been prepared with the greatest of care, and the best skill and experience that could be produced has been em- ployed in the collection and compilation of names and other data. The canvass for names has been exceedingly thorough; no system can be more exhaustive. Not only the regular canvass for data has been made, but a re-canvass for names which appeared in the previous edition, and which for various reasons were not obtained on the first canvass for this edition.
The earlier pages of the work (pages 17 to 47) are devoted to Miscellaneous Information relative to Provo City, Utah County and the State of Utah. It contains an accurate Street and Avenue Guide revised to date; all the departments of the City Government; banks; churches; clubs and societies; newspapers; public buildings; secret societies, etc. Following this (pages 48 to 192) will be found an alpha- betical list of all adult persons living or doing business in Provo City- excepting married women living with their husbands and unmarried women living with their parents and not engaged in any business. The alphabetical lists of the inhabitants of the other cities and towns in Utah County, follow the Provo City section in alphabetical order (pages 193 to 269).
Following this is a list of the Land Owners and Farmers of Utah County, beginning on page 270 and ending on page 287. These names have been obtained from the official Tax Lists at Provo City and are therefore considered correct. After the name of each land owner is given; first, the number of acres owned; second, the assessed valua- tion of same; third, the owner's postoffice address.
The last section of the book (pages 288 to 312) contains the names of all merchants, business and professional men of Provo City and the other towns in Utah County, classified under appropriate headings, which places all persons of like business together. We es- timate the present population of Provo City to be 8064.
It is our intention to issue at regular intervals hereafter the Provo City & Utah County Directory-adding to and improving each issue from time to time.
