INTRODUCTION
BY ARCH M. THURMAN, Secretary Provo Commercial Club.
P ROVO, THE GARDEN CITY of Utah, is one of the most ideally located cities in the West. A ten minute ride west will bring you to the shores of the beautiful Utah lake, which is without an equal as a natural attraction among the fresh water lakes of the West. A short ride north will take you to Provo canyon which is known for its many attractions. Short trips east and south will pay equally well. In fact there are few cities so fortunate as Provo with regard to scenic beauty and attractive surroundings. Mount Timpanogos is the most wonderful mountain climb in the West, and each year hundreds of climbers scale its heights for the experience of crossing its wonderful glacier, studying its Alpine flora and viewing the surrounding territory from its summit.
Provo is noted as the educational center of Utah. The home of the Brigham Young University, it also has a well equipped private academy and a good public school system.
Commercially Provo is equally fortunate. Located in the midst of the most prosperous section of the West, in such a position as to make her a natural distributing point for south- ern and eastern Utah, Provo faces a period of growth and prosperity brighter than most cities. Exceptional business opportunities can be found in all lines of manufacturing. Provo needs more factories of all kinds. She possesses the natural advantages that go to make a good manufacturing city; i. e., good transportation, plenty of power of all kinds, nearness to market, raw material, fuel, and labor. There are no better business opportunities to be found.
As a residence city Provo excells. Beautifully located, with scenic wonders in every direction, with a good school system, splendid water and sewage, good roads, a progressive city government, and excelent business organzations, Provo possesses the advantages of city life without many of the objections found in large cities.
POPULATION.
This volume contains, by actual count, 4586 names, not including the names of firms, corporations, removals and death entries. Using thhe multiple of 214 (the average number of persons allotted to each name listed) gives Provo a population of 10,318.
