Provo City is 49 miles south of Salt Lake City. It is the coun- ty seat of Utah county. It has two small parks called Union and Temple, which are each 24 rods square; a Mormon house of worship, capable of accommodating about 1,500 persons, a bow- ery for holding meetings during the summer and fall, on Temple block; a tithing yard containing the tithing office and store, in which is stored from 4000 to 5000 bushels of grain an- nually; and it is said to be brought in punctually.

The tithes consist of money, general produce, and everything that is produced by the people. Provo City is divided into six municipal wards, four of which are divided into Bishop's wards. There are six public schools, one of which is a high school for boys and girls.

It has a place for theatrical performances called Cluff's Hall, which is used as a theater from December till March, and as a paint and furniture shop the rest of the year. Provo river runs through a canyon of the same name, and empties into Utah Lake about three miles above the city. It affords excellent facilities for milling and manufacturing purposes.
