THE SLAUGHTER FAMILY.
Explanation of Arrangement and Abbreviations.
This genealogy is recorded in regular succession as to generation, and in the order of birth of the issue of each marriage, as nearly so, or as accurately as the information gathered has afforded ; but as to the last there are doubtless errors. The number of genera- tion is denoted by a small Arabic numeral placed on the right of each Christian name, and a little above the text, commencing with Philip Pendleton the emigrant and common ancestor of the family as Philip1, the order of birth of his children being indicated by the Roman numerals i., ii., &c. To avoid confusion and to facilitate reference the descent is arranged lineally in the order presented by the second generation or issue of Philip1, from whom for extended deduction we first take Henry2, the data for such purpose not being within our knowledge as to his sisters preceding him. Abbreviations have been used as follows : b. born, d. died, dau. daughter, m. married. Such other forms, &c., as are used are so palpably self-indicative that they cannot fail to be intelligible to all.
THE SLAUGHTER FAMILY.
It is not worth while to trace this family to the stock from which they spring in England. We limit our notice to the two brothers who were first trans- planted in this parish early in the eighteenth century. Robert and Francis Slaughter were the first church- wardens of St. Mark's Parish, chosen by the first vestry in 1731.
Robert's sons were : 1. Robert, 2. William, 3. Thomas, 4. Francis, 5. James, 6. Lawrence, 7. George.
