He was ter- bly wounded at battle of Somerville Ford, 14th Sep- tember, 1863, having the entire lower jaw carried away by a piece of shell. He survived, however, and was honorably retired. He died, unmarried, 30th May, 1876, at Lynchburg, Virginia, and was buried there.
