WARNING OF ANNUAL TOWN MEETING


The legal voters of the Town of Castleton in the County of Rutland and State of Vermont, are hereby warned to meet at the Town Hall in the Village of Castleton on the First Tuesday, being the 4th day of March, A. D. 1941 at ten o'clock (10:00) in the A. M. to act on the following business:


1: To elect all officers required by law including its road com- missioner, unless the Town votes that the Selectmen be authorized to appoint as prescribed by law.


2. To vote upon the question shall the business of the annual Town Meeting be transacted at 2:00 P. M. or at 8:00 P. M .?


3. To see if the Town will vote to change the time of holding the Annual School District Meeting in March to the end of the school year.


4. To see if the Town will authorize the Selectmen to appoint one of two road commissioners for the year ensuing.


5. To see if the voters will elect two additional Selectmen for a term of one year each, and this question to be voted by Australian Ballot hereafter.


6. To see if the Town will vote to fix the salaries of its Town officers and if so voted, in what manner.


7. To act on the Annual Report of the Town officers.


8. To see if the town will vote a tax on the Grand List to pay the debts and defray the expenses of the Town, and if so, how much ?


9. To see if the Town will vote a tax on the Grand List for the expenses of maintaining and repairing Town Highways,

and if so voted, how much?


10. To see if the Town will vote to spend $25.00 per mile to be expended on back roads, which sum is to be matched by the State of Vermont as per No. 101 of the Act of 1937.


11. 'To see if the Town will vote a discount, time of payment, and rate of interest, to apply on taxes, and if so voted, the rate of interest, time of payments, amount of discount, and time when taxes become delinquent.


12. To see if the Town will authorize the Selectmen or its other proper officers to borrow money to meet demands of cur- rent expenses of the Town until funds can be realized from taxes.


13. To elect a Library trustee for the term of five years in place of Alexander Woollcott whose term expires.


14. To elect an auditor for a term of three years in place of F. L. Jones whose term expires.


15. To elect an auditor for a period of two years in place of Elmer Angevine, resigned.


16. To elect an auditor for a period of one year in place of C. B. McClure, resigned.


17. To elect a Selectman for a period of three years in place of John Fish whose term expires.


18. To act on the question "Shall the Town appropriate a sum of money in addition to the $75.00 required by law for aid of its public library, and if so voted, how much?"


19. To see if the Town will vote to make an appropriation for the expenses of the proper observance of Memorial Day, and if so voted, how much?


20 To vote on the question, "Shall baseball be permitted on Sun- day in this Town?"


21 To vote on the question, "Shall moving pictures be permitted on Sunday in this Town?"


22. To vote on the question, "Shall lectures and concerts be per- mitted on Sunday in this Town?"


23. To vote on the question, "Shall license for the sale of malt and vinous beverages be granted in this Town?"


24. To vote on the question, "Shall spirituous liquors be sold in this Town?"


25. To see if the Town will adopt the so-called daylight saving time, in the event that neighboring towns adopt the same time.


26. To see if the Town will vote to accept land as a donation for school purposes at Castleton Corners, donated by Mr. George H. V. Allen of Fair Haven.


27. To see if the Town will elect 3 Trustees of Public Funds as provided for in section 3541 of the General laws.


28. To see if the Town will vote to have the Trustees of Public Funds accept cemetery perpetual care funds.


29. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the selectmen to advertize Crystal Beach lease for from 5-10 year period.


30. To see if the Town will instruct the selectmen to sell the Hubbardton wood lot.


31. To see if the Town will vote to adopt the following Sesqui- centennial resolution: "Resolved that the citizens of this Town rededicate themselves and their efforts to the idea

of Freedom and Unity, that for 150 years, under Divine Providence, has guided the thought and action of the people of this State of Vermont."


32. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Town officers to end the fiscal year December 31 instead of January 31.


33. To see if the Town will vote a tax of 5 cents on the Grand List for the purpose of repairs to the Float Bridge.


34. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money not to exceed $100 to erect a marker commemorating the meeting of Ethan Allan and Benedict Arnold on the Village Green.


35. To act on any other Town business which may properly come before this meeting.
