HOW TO RING A BOX
A key for the ordinary Locked Boxes may be found in the house at the corner the box is on or in the house next there- to. Immediately upon the discovery of a fire in your neighborhood go to the box nearest to the fire unlock the door and pull the hook all the way down and let go. Do not jerk the hook down and up but pull it down steadily as far as it will go and let go
No key is required for the Keyless Door Boxes turn the handle to the right open the door and pull the hook all the way down and let go then close the door and wait there till the department arrives and inform it where the fire is

For any coach or other vehicle drawn by two horses (or other animals) :
1 For conveying one or two passengers from one railroad depot or steamboat dock to another railroad depot or steam- boat dock, or from one railroad depot or steamboat dock to any down town hotel,
or from any one down town hotel to any depot or steamboat dock, or from any one down town hotel to any other down town hotel, one dollar
2 For each additional passenger of the same party or family, fifty cents
By down town district is meant the business territory bounded on the east by Lake Michigan, on the south by Fowler street, on the west by Fifth street, and on the north by State and Martin streets
3 For conveying one or two passengers not exceeding one mile, one dollar
4 For conveying one or two passengers any distance over one mile and less than two miles, one dollar and fifty cents
5 For each additional passenger of the same party or family, fifty cents
6 For conveying one or two passengers in said city any distance exceeding two miles and not exceeding three miles, two dollars
7 For each additional passenger of the same party or family, fifty cents
8 For the use of any such carriage or vehicle by the hour, with one or more pas- sengers, with the privilege of going from place to place, and stopping as often as may be required, as follows:
For the first hour, two dollars
For each additional hour or part of an hour, one dollar
9 For the use by the day of any car- riage or other vehicle drawn by two horses or other animals, with one or more passengers, eight dollars
10 For conveying children between five and fourteen years of age, half of the above price may be charged for like dis- tances, but for children under five years of age no charge shall be made, provided that the distance from any railroad depot, steamboat landing or hotel to any other railroad. steamboat landing or hotel, shall in all cases be estimated at not exceed- ing one mile
The owners or drivers of express wa- gons are hereby authorized to charge and claim the following prices for the trans- portation of trunks and other luggage from any hotel, steamboat, dwelling house or boarding house within the city limits to any railway depot, and from any railway depot to any hotel, dwelling house or boarding house, within said limits, for one or two trunks belonging to the same person, fifty cents; for each ad- ditional trunk belonging to the same per- son, twenty-five cents
