Preface
This work is thoroughly civic, and stamps with the seal of endurance the history of the great men and women of Little Rock who have, and are, making it the enterprising city it is acclaimed today.
1442947
This admirable collection of biographies of Little Rock's foremost leaders of life and thought will be an invaluable acquisi- tion to the city's historical archives ; it will fulfill a natural and laudable desire on the part of every citizen to know something about those eminent in the various walks of life ; to one or more of which everyone belongs in a greater or less degree.
The careers herein described will be found stimulating to civic pride and a potent factor in inspiring the efforts of the coming generation.
The sketches of these prominently successful in the social, educational, religious, financial, industrial, fraternal and political lines of human endeavor have been selected with the greatest of care. They are the representative men and women of our city : men and women of thought and of action. The deeds and achieve- ments of their everyday life are their history; their history is the history of our wonderful city.
To lo honor to our city and to do honor to them, this volume is respectfully submitted to the public.
"Not more than others they deserve, Yet God has given them more."
This book is not perfect and we acknowledge the omission of some representative citizens of Little Rock.
