The fire department is a partially paid one, consisting of 41 men, 2 steam engines, 3 hose carts and 2 hook and ladder trucks, all well equipped and in good order. The present fire alarm system is the latest im- proved Gamewell. It consists of 24 outside boxes, 5 indicators (one at each fire house), divided into four independent circuits, and all connecting with the central office at No. 930 Third street. The big bell is also struck by an electric striker.

SAN DIEGO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The permanent exhibit of the Chamber of Commerce is located on F street, bet. Third and Fourth streets. The rooms occupied are large and are kept well filled at all times with the many varied productions of San Diego county. The attractiveness of the display is attested by the large number of visitors constantly in attendance. The activ- ity of the Chamber of Commerce is rapidly bringing San Diego county to the notice of the whole world. It is an organization which has been and will continue to be the nucleus around which enter- prises for the advancement of the prosperity of the bay region will cluster.
