STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE.
EXPLANATION TO STREET GUIDE.
It will be noticed that in this Street Guide the names of the streets are mentioned in alphabetical order, giving the course in which they run, as near as possible, to all points of the com- pass, and enumerating all streets which cross the same in the order in which they occur, except on such streets as are crossed by numeral streets or avenues exclusively.
The decimal system of numbering being adopted, one hun- dred numbers are assigned to each square, giving one number to each twelve and one-half feet, or two numbers to each lot of twenty-five feet, beginning at the Platte River on the west at 0, and 100 at First street, increasing northeasterly on Larimer and all streets running parallel.
Streets crossing Larimer are numbered from Broadway in- creasing northwesterly. On Broadway and on streets running parallel with same the numbers increase northward and south- ward from Ellsworth avenue at 0. Avenues crossing Broadway are numbered east and west from Broadway at 0, prefixing the word West to that portion of the avenue west of Broadway, as follows: West Twelfth avenue would apply to that part of Twelfth avenue west of Broadway.
All West avenues run parallel with West Colfax avenue and from West Sixteenth avenue north to West Fifty-second avenue are located north and west of the Platte River. All other avenues run parallel to Colfax avenue.
For convenience in locating the streets and avenues, we have used the most prominent streets, avenues, boulvards and the Platte River as locating points.
