CHRIST CHURCH .- EPISCOPAL, 955 MAIN ST. First Organization, 1762.
This second edifice of Christ Church was begun in 1827. The corner stone was laid May 13, 1828, and consecrated Dec. 28, 1829. The Church is built of freestone and is 121X feet long and 76 feet wide. It was the first speci- men of Gothic church architecture in this country. The first edifice was wood on op- posite corner to present, began in 1762, finished in 1786, and moved to Talcott st. in 1829. The chancel, new chapel and parish building on Church st., were opened Dec. 28, 1879. Services Sundays, 8; 10.45 A. M .; 7.30 P. M. ; week days, 12 M. Sunday School at 12.30 P. M. 888 communicants.

The corner stone of the first edifice was laid Oct. 27, 1860; and the church was consecrated in May, 1861. It was enlarged and improved in 1875. The last service was held in it Jan. 24, 1892. The new edifice is 144 feet in length by 623 feet wide, with a square tower 112 feet high :; was completed in June, 1898, and consecrated May 31, 1899. ST. PATRICK'SCHURCH .- ROMAN CATHOLIC .- 88 CHURCH ST.
This Church was first formed in June, 1828, in Talcott street, and was destroyed by fire May 11, 1853. Their recent edifice was dedi- cated Dec. 14, 1851, and was destroyed by fire Jan. 24, 1875. Their present edifice was ded- icated Nov. 26, 1876; consecrated Oct. 4, 1884. The length from the outside of tower to outside of chancel, is 166% feet, and the breadth is 78 feet; the height of tower and spire from ground is 216 feet; and cost $175,000. Seats for 2000 persons; 240 pews on main floor and 96 in galleries. About 5,000 members.

The building at this location, first occupied as a School House, then by Protestant Metho- dist Episcopal, and afterward rented as a Free Mission Chapel, was, September, 1859, pur- chased for Roman Catholic purposes, and an addition attached. It was dedicated by Bishop MCFARLAND, on Sunday, December 4, 1859. In April, 1865, a freestone structure was commenced, which is 75 feet broad and 164 feet long, and it is one of the largest church edifices in the State. Its entire cost, when completed, will be over $200,000. There are church sittings in the basement, which at present are used for Sunday school and church society purposes. About 4500 members.

This second edifice was dedicated May 17th, 1870. The Church is built of Connecti- cut granite, with trimmings of Portland and Ohio stone. The tower and spire to rise 185 feet. The whole building is 123 by 57 feet. The audience room of the Church is 86 by 50 feet. Services at 10.45 A. M. and 7 80 P. M .; Young People's meeting at 6.30 P. M. 303 inembers.
