Educational classes are maintained even- ings during the fall and winter months. There was an enrollment of over 327 students season of 1898-9. The Educational Department known as the Hillyer In- stitute has an endowment of $50,000. A Working- man's Exchange is maintained as one of the many departments of the Association. Recreation rooms furnished with pool tables, and other games are pro- vided. The workingmen of the city assemble in large numbers at these rooms where social privileges are en- joyed free from the demoralizing influences of the sa- loon. All workingmen 18 years or over may join this department as well as that of the main association. The new building, cor. Jewell, Ford and Pearl streets, was opened November 8, 1898. It is a superior build- ing in all respects. See pages 704, 705.
