WADSWORTH ATHENEUM, 111 Main Street, at the head of Mulberry Street,
Is a granite building of 100 feet in length, on Main street, and 80 feet in depth in center wings, and 70 feet in depth in outside wings, and is appropriated to four distinct Societies. Its archi- tectural style is of the castelated structure, with central towers 70 fect in height, and corner bntresses bo feet in height. The stone, which is a species of gneiss, was procured from the cast part of Gla-tenbury, about nine miles South East of this city.
The North division, first story 13 feet high, second story 24 feet high, and both 35 feet long by 30 feet wide, is occupied by the YOUNG MEN'S INSTITUTE, for a reading room, quarterly and other mectings, and by their Library, of 10,000 volumes.
The South division is of the same dimensions as the North. The CONNECTICUT HISTORICAL SOCIETY use this.
The N . TURAL HISTORY SOCIETY occupy a large room in the first story of the South division of the Atheneum.
The central division of' similar dimensions with the others, is used as a gallery of very valuable PAINTINGS ant STATUARY,
Tho builling was erected by voluntary contributions of citi- zeus, and, with the land, cost $50,557.08.

PASSENGER RAILROAD STATION.

Tins building, erceted by the Hartford, New Haven and Springfield, and the Hartford, Providence and Fishkill Railroad Companies, is built of Portland stone, of the Italian Campenili style of Architecture, at an expense of $60,000. Its entire length from North to South is 360 feet. The front faces to the South on Asylum street, and is 94 feet in width; the corner towers thereto are 23 feet square, and 76 feet in height; the smaller towers on the South are 8 feet square and 54 feet in height; the eenter over the arch is 32 feet wide on elevation of 42 feet ; the span of the arches being 25 feet 5 inches; and the height of the arches from the track, 20 feet. The second and third stories of the front portion of the building are finished off' into offices for the use of the several officers of these respective companies. The center of the first stories on both sides is handsomely fitted up into Passenger Saloons. The second sto- ry into two refectories 20 by 84 feet.
HARTFORD PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL. Corner of Asylum and Ann sts.
SIZE of the building, 50 feet on Asylum, and 75 on Aun sts. Three stories in height-also au airy basement. The erection of this building was begun by the First School Society of Hartford, April, 1847, and was dedicated the 3d day of Decem- ber, 1817. The building with the fixtures and apparatus, in- cluding the land, cost >15,000.

PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL, and is free like the High School, be- ing wholly sustained by the proceeds of its fund. The num- ber of scholars is limited to 35, but by requisitions of the charter, the privileges of the school are unlimited, either to this city or State.
