The corner-stone of this edifice was laid by Bishop Williams on the 25th of July, 1854, and the church completed in April, 1855. The church is 74 feet in length, and 47 feet in width, exclusive of the chancel, which is 6 feet by 20, and a vestry room, 9 feet by 16. It contains 94 pews on the floor, and has a gal- lery only for the organ and choir. It con- tains, also, a large leeture room. It is built of free stone, and cost a little more than $9000. Since the first Sunday in April, 1862, it has been sustained as a Free Church, by the Church City Miss. Society.

THIs Church was first gathered June, 1823, in Talcott st. Their present edifice was dedi- cated Dec. 14, 1851. The length, from the outside of tower to the ontside of chancel, is 160 feet; and the breadth is 80 feet. The height of tower and spire from grond is 200 feet. The Church floor contains 264 pews, and the galleries 98, and will seat about 2,300 persons. It is built of Portland stone, and cost about $40,000. The congregation mm- bers 6,000. Very Rev. ST. CATHARINE ACADEMY. - Connected with the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy is a young ladies' academy, which numbers 120 pupils. There are besides two orphan asyl- ums, caring annually for about 100 orphan boys and girls, which are in charge of the Sisters of Mercy; Sister Mary Rose, local superioress.
There is a select school attached to the Brothers' Institute, with about 80 pupils.

ST. PETER'S CHURCH - ROMAN CATHOLIC. 44 MAIN ST.
THE building at this location, first occupied as a School House, then by Protestant Metho- dist Episcopal, and afterward rented as a Free Mission Chapel, was, September, 1859, pur- chased for Roman Catholic purposes, and an addition attached. It was dedicated by Bishop MCFARLAND, on Sunday, the 4th Dec. 1859. In April, 1865, a Free Stone structure was commenced, which is 75 feet broad and 164 feet long, and it is one of the largest elmirch edifices in the State. Its entire cost, when completed, will be over $200,000. There me to be church sittings in the basement, for those who cannot get on to the principal floor, with priests and organs for both floors. In the basement accommodations for 1200 child- ren.

There being no perspective drawing of this edifice which is now being finished up on the outside, we cannot get a drawing of the edifice, for this year's Directory.
This congregation formerly worshipped on the cor- ner of Main and Sheldon streets, in a building now known as "Harbison's Hall." In 1867 that property was sold and their present lot was purchased, A Chapel was built in the rear of the lot, and was dedi- cated Feb. 28th, 1868. The main edifice was com- menced in March, 1869, and was dedicated May 17th, 1870. The Church is built of Connecticut granite, with trimmings of Portland and Ohio stone. It is of the Romanesque style of architecture. The tower stands on the corner of the streets, and the spire will, when finished, rise to the height of 135 feet from the ground. The whole building is 123 by 57 feet. The audience room of the Church is 86 by 50 feet. The pul- pit, pews, doors and wainscoting are of chestnut and black walnut. The Chapel is 45 by 27 feet, and the Sabbath School rooms are 53 by 27 feet, and are finished in the same manner as the Church. Services 10.30 A. M., and 3 P. M.

HARTFORD PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL EDIFICE.
The new Hartford High School building is located ou Hopkins street, about 1000 feet south-west of the rail- road station. Its external dimensions are 100 by 85 feet. It is of mixed architecture, the Norman style predomi- nating. The foundation is of Portland Freestone; the exterior walls of Boston faced brick: window sills, belt courses, &c. of Ohio sandstone. The observatory tower is 120 feet in height. The entrance door, for the girls are on the north side-for the boys on the south side of the building. In the basement is a gymnasium for the boys 39 by 40 feet, also a play room of the same size for the girls. In the first story are four rooms 80 by 40 feet with wardrobe and reception rooms. On the second floor two rooms 30 by 40 feet; one $0 by 50 and the la . boratory 24 by 30 feet, with a recitation room 16 by 50
feet. The third story is occupied by the hall or chapel 60 by 87 feet, capable of seating about 1000 persons. The building is heated by a low pressure steam heating apparatus. Thorough ventilation is secured. The buil- ding will accommodate 409 scholars. The entire cost of building and grounds has been $159.248.50.
