PREFACE
W E take pleasure in presenting to our patrons the thirteenth volume of the Jacksonville City Directory. It has been the aim of the publishers to make the Jacksonville Directory a medium to display the progress the city is making in business and population.
There is no publication connected with the city that so completely exhibits the industrial, commercial and other industries than the City Directory. The statements set forth are taken from facts and cannot be contradicted. In the alphabetical list, the names of all inhabitants over a certain age are taken, giving the most reliable data for estimating the population. The classified department shows a complete exhibit of the various kinds of business and the extent to which it is represented. The miscellaneous, the condition of the var- ious governments, churches, societies, etc., and the advertising department, the energy and enterprise in the business circles, not only to exploit their individual interests, but establish the fact that they are interested in the progress of the city. Cities where newspapers and other kindred representative publications are well represented in their advertising department are regarded as being thriving and growing communities.
DIRECTORY LIBRARY.
A Directory Library supplied with annual issues of directories of leading cities is being maintained by the publishers at the rooms of the Board of Trade for the free use of the public. In exchange for these directories copies of the Jacksonville Directory is exchanged, placing the Jacksonville Directory in the libraries of all principal cities. The advantage derived by Jacksonville from this is apparent.
