STEVENS

AND THE-

HAWK-EYE . IN . AFRICA.

The great interest shown in the beauti- fully illustrated four page article by Thos. Stevens, descriptive of his experiences in interior Africa, upon the expedition to meet Stanley, as given in Harper's, Scrib- ner's, and other leading periodicals for May, has led to their publication com- bined in book form.

Mr. Stevens describes in the same hap- py and interesting vein which character- ized his "Around the World on a Bicy- cle," the personel and customs of an Afri- can expedition, a week's sport in the

prolific game country adjoining the fa- mous snow-capped mountain Kilima- njaro, with a valuable commentary on the latter ; the killing of a huge African py- thon, and other incidents of his trip.

He was provided with a Hawk-Eye In- stantaneous Camera, and in consequence brought away a most unique collection of photographs, from which have been made the fine engravings illustrating his articles.

To show the wonderful progress which has been made in simplifying the art of photography, as exampled by the Hawk- Eye Camera, it may be stated that Mr. Stevens (who had never handled a camera before) was merely required to point the Hawk-Eve at whatever he desired to pho- tograph, touching a button to momenta- rily uncover the lens, the instrument being loaded for taking a large number of pictures.

He gave the matter no further attention until his return to America several months later, when the sensitized film upon which the impressions or "expo- sures" had been made in Africa was re- moved from the Camera and the pictures finished up.

This publication is entitled "Africa as seen by Thos Stevens and the Hawk-Eye," and is sent post-paid by the publishers to all who will mention this publication the BLAIR CAMERA CO., Boston, Philadel- phia and Chicago, at the nominal price of 20 cents.
