PREFACE

This is Atlanta's 37th City Directory and the 14th under present management. During the 37 years Atlanta has grown from a 17,561 to a 217,000 population town; the book has grown from 366 to 1760 pages, and the price has grown only from $5.00 to $7.00, which is the price that Montgomery, Mobile, Birmingham, Jacksonville, Charleston, and many other towns not nearly so large as Atlanta pay.

Another notable feature of the Atlanta Directory is that it gives two-fifths more information concerning the average man than any other book published in a town of 150,000 people.

It gives his name, his wife's name, his occupation, where he is occupied and his residence; other books give only his name, occupation and residence.

We hope that every one realizes how vitally important it is that they should be correctly chronicled in the City Di- rectory, a thing that costs them nothing, but may be of im- mense value in case of accidents, telegrams, letters, inquiries of relatives, delivery of goods or the many unexepected conditions that arise in the course of human events, in fact, a person who neglects to have correct and complete informa- tion accorded himself places himself, his friends and all whom he has dealings with at a serious and sometimes costly disadvantage.

We desire to thank all those who have aided us, in our earnest efforts to give correct and complete information. Because it is the large employer of labor who by his co- operation with us, contributes most to the accuracy and com- pleteness of this work.
