The Sion over your door
TT is a good thing, isn't it? You would not think- of doing business without it.
But it is only seen by those who pass your way,
The City Directory is where many people look when. they want to find you. You should make it easy for them to find you by putting in the directory such infor- mation as a buyer wants to know. Index your business under all classifications where a customer might look for you.
To be properly registered costs less than to be left out. Send for the City Directory Advertising Man and let him explain this to you in detail.

A Few Merits of Our Silo
-
Showing Construction of Inter- locking Cement Stave Silo.
We claim that the Interlocking Cement Stave Silo is the best -
BECAUSE it is air tight and water proof and will preserve the silage perfectly under all weather conditions.
It is a permanent silo, and growa stronger with age,
It cannot be destroyed by fire, and is strong enough to resist any wind.
It is acid proof.
It will require no attention to keep it in perfect condition.
It carries its own life and fire insurance.
It will freeze as little as any silo on the market.
It sells for less than a good wooden silo, and will last forever.
The first cost is the total cost; no expense for repairs, painting and attention of hoops.
THEREFORE, if you want the best and cheap- est Silo made, get the Interlocking.

Stability av Permanency
Do you realize that a City Directory advertisement is a testimonial to the per- manency, the stability, of the advertiser?
That's the sort of concern all of us want to patronize, because we know when they sell us merchandise they are behind it in every way, today, tomorrow, and for the years to come.
-
"Fly-by-night," "fire-sale" and other temporary or "get-rich-quick" concerns rarely appear in the City Direc- tory.
And it is a noteworthy fact that the concerns which advertise one year in the city directory are there again next year. 90% of directory advertising is renewed.
Directory advertising, is profitable. In connection with the class- ified business headings it is doubly effective.
May we explain how and why it will pay you? i

Detroit Directory Library-Every Directory Office is a Branch
HOW DIRECTORY LIBRARIES ARE USED
He Wanted to Buy a Home
"Who sells ready-cut houses?" said a man to us the other day. "There is nobody listed under that heading in the Detroit City Directory, but I know there is some concern out in the State which sells them."
Reference to the Michigan State Gazet- teer (State Business Directory) soon told him that the concern he wished was the North American Construction Company, of Bay City, Mich. "I will write and order what I want at once." was his parting remark.
Where one instance of this sort comes to our attention, the same things are happen- ing over and over again wherever a City Directory is to be found.
If you will trace back new customers to find out how they found you, City Direct- ory classified lists will receive their share of the credit.
A $50,000.00 Order
A traveling man from St. Louis called on a wholesale dry goods house in St. Paul, to sell salvage goods. They did not deal in that class of goods.
Later the firm dissolved. One partner decided to engage in that line of trade and wanted to buy a complete stock, amounting to about $50,000.00.
He called at our office and examined the St. Louis Directory to find the name of, the house the agent represented. The class- ification "Salvage Goods" did not show it.
We, being more familiar with the class- ifications in a Directory, found it under "Bankrupt Stocks," much to the delight of the jobber, and a tremendous order was placed with the salvage house.
The classified section of the City Directory is the greatest buyers' guide on earth. Any one classification may secure the largest order and the best customer, any or every day in the year, and its omission may lose a large order at any time.
Every day, all over the country, thousands of people are consulting Polk's Directory Libraries. We offer you the free use of our, directories for single reference.
Many Directories of various cities are bought by progressive concerns, who desire up- o-date mailing lists, classified by trades and otherwise.
Ask for a free copy of our. "Directory of Directories," or for our "List of Mailing Lists."

The Association of the American Directory Publishers is composed of repu- table, City Directory Publishers, organized for the general advancement of the Directory business. Any person, corporation or firm engaged in business as owner and publisher of a City Directory in the United States or Canada, who shall qualify as competent to gather information and compile a City Directory and furnish satisfactory references, is eligible to membership.
The objects of the Association are;
First. The advancement of the Directory business and the improvement of Directories by the interchange of ideas and the exchange of experienced employes.

Introduction
The twenty-fourth edition of R. L. Polk & Co.'s Des Moines and Valley Junction Directory is herewith presented. It is similar to the directories of former years, only larger. It represents a vast amount of work and untiring effort in gathering and compiling the statistics of this growing city into book form, so that every resident may be readily found and the societies, organizations, public departmente, schools, churches, etc., may be learned.
